Went to one campground this summer where the owner escorts you to your site and then directs you where on the site to park, motioning where to drive and how to go. He stayed until the trailer was where he wanted, waving his hands etc.

The trailer was "ok" where he wanted it, other than my truck was sitting on the road while I unhitched (pull through) and I had to park behind the trailer. I wasn't in a bad mood so I didn't question him or move it after he left.

First time I've encountered this? Normally they want your money and don't care how you park.

I had that happen one time. They weren't so worried about where the camper sat on the site, as they were protective of the surrounding grass. They were very anal about the surrounding grass, and didn't want me backing over any of it. Needless to say, I haven't gone back.

We've been escorted to our site in various KOAs, but I don't remember them instructing us where/how to park the camper.

For the first time this year, we encountered escorts in a state park. It seemed to be done when the electricity hook-up would be on the opposite side of a trailer/RV if they drove the indicated (one-way) direction of travel in the campground loop. The camp host escorted the camper the wrong way, I never saw what happened when it was time for those campers to leave.

Yes, some jellystone's do that. The campsite boundries are not always clear. It is beneficial, because it maximize's space for the campsites.

At one of the beach campgrounds we frequent, they escort you to the site and, if it is a particularly tight fit, will direct you how/where to park. Which is actually helpful.

The owner that the OP described would probably be pulling his hair out trying to precisely have me place the camper in an exact spot. Might be kind of fun to see him go crazy :).

I have been escorted but never told where to park it. They have driven me to the site. Pointed it out and off they went.

I would not like an owner standing over me directing me to place the tires in one exact spot. Give me a break. I too would never return.

I went to one private campground where they escorted you. They lived by the "old school" way of customer service. They tried to do everything to make your stay the best. They didn't freakout about where everything was parked just so long as your unit / car was on the parking pad. There was a massive storm brewing (I was the only one in a tent) and they came out to my site to offer their pavilion if I find the rain too much. You cant find that type of service anywhere else. The biggest thing against them was no kids aloud. It was an adult (and their dogs) only campground. But it was like the only campground I went to that didn't have massive restrictions on dogs. Which is probably why they couldn't allow kids.

Never had an escort to our site, but we've only stayed in Texas SPs. I did once watch another camper with a longer TT having trouble backing into his site and getting all bent out of shape about it. A park ranger happened his way and quickly told him when and how to turn his wheel to get the camper into the smaller site. Was very impressed with the ranger's ability to cool the guy down and get him parked. Of course this guy had just ripped his awning off on a tree branch that fell during a storm at another site. Something like his third one in a year.

We stayed at the Santa Fe, NM KOA last summer. It's a great CG! They did escort us to an area and recommended a site, but they also said we could pick a different one in the vicinity of the one they led us to. When we returned the second time, on our way back to AL, they let us park where we wanted. I think they were more controlling when the CG was pretty full on our first visit. We did not mind since the place was so nice, and the food in Santa Fe makes us very happy and compliant! [:D]

We stayed at a private CG in Oregon that escorted us to the site and tried to stay when we were parking, but they moved along when they saw how long it takes us to get situated. I believe it was a customer service thing. The campground was very well taken care of and that was the last we heard from anyone the rest of our trip. I think that there presents keeps the party people away from there campground. [CP]

We were escorted a couple times when I was camping with parents when about 15.
I'll never forget it! The place was Circle B Campground in Eminence, Mo. The escort was the owner, Len Bolin. He wore a sixgun just like a gunslinger and had a VW station wagon with a flashing amber lights on a light bar. On your first time there, the lights flashed until he got you escorted to your site. Of course, he took the longest possible route to show you off the all the other campers. More of a "Hey Everybody! Here's a first-timer!" Kind of a right of passage. It was really excellent customer care. We went there a few times a year for several years. We all loved it. It was a marvelous place right on the Jacks Fork River, canoe rentals, free firewood, games in the evening and more. Big gravel bars, and no real way to mark sites, so unless it was crowded, you could have plenty of room.
Maybe not quite what you had in mind...but I have been escorted.

Happened to me on Thursday at a KOA The guy was giving me parking signals like he was directing a 747on the Tarmac , Anyway the place was a dump site not even cleaned up dirty forks on the picnic table, nails coming out of the table , What a joke. I left after 1 day stayed at another campground.

We had a similar situation. They directed us to follow. The people driving the golf cart were new and took us down the road the wrong way to be able to properly back in. The seasonal people were unwilling to move their vehicles that were crowding the road. The owner actually brought the tractor around and moved my camper where it fit the best. A rocky start, but ended up being a decent campground.

We don't get into paid / private campgrounds much but we did have an escort a few years ago. It was in the best well-intentioned customer service mode, tho.

"Let me lead you to your site...No. 321 is right here...you can pull thru or back in as you choose...water tap is there; electric pole is over there...this path leads to the nearest bathhouse...enjoy your stay, and thanks!" She came back an hour later just to see that our set-up went smoothly. It was a great weekend.

We were escorted once when we camped at Jellystone Park near Estes Park Colorado. They led us around the loop to our site and suggested the spot to park the PUP so when we stepped out the door or looked out you had a beautiful view of a snow capped mountain off to the west. In that campground there are certain sites that you have one place to set up but the sites at the top of the hill are angled and pretty large so you have multiple options. I was happy with the suggestion :).

The KOA we go to in Ohio forests you to your site. I watched them help the bigger campers back in, not to tell them where to sit but to aid them in backing up. Not sure I would want someone telling me where to park as a control thing.

I'm the type of person who will ask for help if i need it (yes I will ask when required) otherwise leave me alone.

I can see some sort of guidance with poorly delineated / marked sites, but the "747 director" type people make me not want to return.

Babysitting someone to a pull through site that required one turn from the office to get to and hovering until you are stopped? Must think poorly of your clientele.

Nope. Never. All but one time, we've reserved our site online and drove into the campground and parked before the host came up to us.
The only time we've had to stop before hand was at Bass Lake and we had to go to the campground office and check in. And then drive down to our campground ourselves. I've never had an escort.
