Bought our first PUP in April on Craigslist - a 2000 Dutchmen Voyager 1006. The wife and I both passed the 40 year old mark this year and decided we didn't want to sleep on the ground anymore so we got this. I've been camping since I was a kid, but this is the first time owning or using a camper. Popped it up and down a few times now in the driveway, vacuumed out the dirt and mouse crap, replaced the faulty galley cutoff switch and the busted roof vent, found the battery hookup cables jammed up under the trailer tongue to add a battery, fired up the furnace and fridge to make sure they're working, lubed up the bed slides and the lift system, greased the wheel bearings, and taking it on the maiden voyage this weekend to Peninsula State Park in Door County. We don't have hookups at the site we've reserved since we booked the site well before we bought the PUP, so we'll see how long things run without shore power. If everything dies, it will just be a really big tent for us this time around. This site has been great so far with figuring out how stuff works on these things and issues to watch for. Planning to do some more work over the summer like completely repack the wheel bearings, replace the lift cable (it's a little frayed in one spot), and add a cigarette lighter port and/or USB outlets to charge our phones off the camper battery. Thanks to everyone for posting your knowledge!
Welcome! Wow—you’ve done more, maintenance-wise, on that thing than most people do, so you’re off to a good start!
Thanks everyone - I've spent a lot of time scanning here since we bought the camper, looking for what I need to maintain on a regular basis. Glad I found this forum!
