Fish Creek Pond Review

Bullet Points:

o Something for everybody, “Community Atmosphere”… multiple internet sites dedicated to the Campground [https://www.campadk.com/campsitephotos/campgrounds/Fish+Creek, http://www.fishcreekpond.com/, Facebook Community]
o “352 sites accommodating all equipment from tents to 40ft RV's with a natural sand shoreline and water access for most campsites. 319 sites are directly on the lakeshore [emphasis mine].” [https://www.campadk.com/campsitephotos/campgrounds/Fish+Creek]
o No Electrical Hook-Ups, water spigots every 3-4 sites
o Swimming and Boating right from your site
o Showers in 2 separate buildings on opposite ends of the Campground
o Large ”Ponds” that connect to ADKs Upper Saranac Lake
o Backwater creeks that you can paddle into the wilderness
o Many, many, many hiking trails close by the campground ranging from “Family Friendly” to “Expert”
o “The Trading Post” [privately owned] store right outside the main entrance… has everything a camper might need
o Close to major attractions, The Wild Center [Tupper Lake], Whiteface Mountain Memorial Highway [drive up the highest peak in the ADKs], Lake Placid & the Olympic complex

Our Take:

o It’s a “crowded” campground, not generally something we would have picked, we prefer more “wilderness” [we noticed a lot of sites way too close to each other, for our liking] but it seemed like everybody was respectful of their neighbors. Our site, #157 was very large, practically a “pull through”, so we were able to position the PUP with the door facing the lake. Most others seemed to be "back-in" only.
o With 2020 COVID, NY DEC kept all ADK [and Catskill] campgrounds closed until early July. Within 24 hours of them opening, ALL sites in the ADKs were taken. This campground and site [#157] was the only thing available for the dates we needed.
o Like I mentioned in the bullet points, above, we found it very convenient to paddle some back waters and hike a couple of trails… which is our “heaven”. Also, being able to just walk out our camper door and jump in the Lake was a big bonus [especially for our “Tween” and her BFF]… not to mention the serenity of an early morning/late night campfire right on a lake… the soulful cries of the Loons rising from the smooth as glass, misty covered lake in the morning.

Had a great time in site #19 at Fish Creek Ponds with our vintage Pop-Up Wheel Camper and our restored 1936 Old Town Canoe. Fish Creek is the best.
This may be our last trip. We are hoping to find new (younger) owners for our Wheel Camper.
