I bought a 1998 Viking 2460 a couple of years ago and have been working through the systems, rebuilding side boards, etc., etc. I didn’t get out at all last year, but have several trips planned for this year. So, I made my way around to the Suburban 6 gallon water heater and started the maintenance.

I got the old anode rod out. I’d say it was due for replacement. B898BDC1-2CB6-4642-BD5B-4DB458F71C96.jpeg

Then I started back flushing the tank. Along with a bunch of lime deposits, this came out. . Anyone know what this is? More importantly, is my hot water heater toast? 9CFB9561-3B18-49C6-BC93-7C94EAF265E5.jpeg 010F4BDA-DD1E-4F71-A91E-0906ED489289.jpeg B93B551A-9873-4746-B4AD-CC33B064264F.jpeg

No clue, but i dont think it should be in a water heater. Put the rod in and run water through it and see what happens. Looks almost like some sort of feed tube.

I think you’re right. It certainly looks like it from the graphic. Next time I open it up I’ll undo the cold water in connection and see if it’s something I can reinsert. If not, it’s probably not a big deal. Thanks for finding that video for me!

Checked the water heater out. No leaks, burner and thermostat worked as they should. We’re good to go (at least for now )
