Hi! We want to go camping in 2 weeks. Gonna take the grandson out in the camper. We would prefer free dispersed sites not far from Phx. The place we usually go (Woods Canyon) will be closed. We would like to fish too, any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Go past Woods Canyon lake. Follow the road in a ways to Bear Canyon lake.
There are plenty of free dispersed sites along the road in to Bear Canyon lake.
Good fishing at the lake too.
My wife and I used to camp there all the time when we lived in Phoenix.

That's where we usually Camp. The forest roads, they said they're closing this weekend. It's our favorite spot! We were just there a couple weeks ago, caught a ton of rainbows and tigers

[CP]I tent camped everywhere up on the rim, the best area this time of year - go past Woods canyon to FR 99 - turn North veer right 2 miles in to go away from the cabins - a whole bunch of various sites with no neighbors.

Woodscanyon is a wonderful destination for camping trip in summer. In the early spring, late autumn or winter, Tonto NF is a better choice that close to Phoenix. Unfortunately, the Tonto NF required day pass nowaday, even with dispersed camping.
