    Howdy Folks! <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_cowboy.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Cowboy Camper">

I picked this up on Sunday from a fellow PUPer. I couldn't beat the price!

    <img src="http://inlinethumb08.webshots.com/19335/2248463640100500874S500x500Q85.jpg" border=0>

I pretty much knew this wouldn't be an exact fit when I was talkin' to the man who made the offer, but we both figured that I could make it work. Instead of using his thread any more, I figured it best to start my own. So here's what I got. It's a nine foot screen room that's gonna be used on my 11 foot awning. The Pic is from last night (Monday) when I finally got to give it a try. The zippers don't match, and then there is the obvious Width Issue.

As you can see in the Pic, I think I can resolve the Width issue by just adding some material to the back end of the Screen Room to have it reach the camper's side wall. So I'll be checking in with some sources Locally to see if I can get some similar material to add on. How to add this on? Probably sew if I can, or maybe I can use some Snaps instead.

Now then... How to attach the zippers that don't match. I've have several ideas run in my head. Velcro, Snaps, buying Zipper Sections and sewing them in place.... <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Question">

Then, how to..? what and where? Now I have some really good ideas from my mom as well. Before I share them though, I want to see what anyone else might have for some ideas. I'm gonna get to work on this ASAP with my ideas, but I just want to see if anyone has any of there own ideas to share as well.

I'll be sure to take many Pics of this in progress, cause in my mind this is one heck of a Mod. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_hardhat.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Major Mods"> Not only would I like to see some ideas, but I also want to ask for some good luck on this one. This would have to be the most ambitious Mod that I have ever taken on to date. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Shock">

    Looks good so far!

I'm sure you can make it work just fine with a little work. :)

Hi Cowboy Camper. Very cool. I'm currently working on making a "add a room" from scratch. My one suggestion is making the center area wider. There are seams that run down the area of where the poles would be. Get some screen material at Home Depot or Lowes. 36" wide and more than the height of the screen that already exists. There are three colors, the one I ended up using is gray. Try and match what you already have. Also, I'm guessing the top and bottom of the screen room are made of "Nauga Hide" (a form of plastic leather material). You can probably get this at a local fabric shop and probably match or come close to the color that is already there. you can use the height of the center section as your template and just make it a bit longer and sew it to the other section on the side. As for a zipper. There are companies that make/sell them. I don't know how to send you in the right direction there though. I'm currently using grommets, bungee cord, and velcro to do my work. I'll keep a look out for this thread. I'm very curious to see what you do. Good luck either way! It's a lot of fun, sort of like a puzzle. :)

Thanks Barry, and Good Luck on your Project! Post Pics when you can. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Smile">

I'd thought about adding on in the middle, but for some reason I have a fear of messing up on the screening material. My mom suggested using screen too, but I think it'll be easier to sew in the canvas like ("Nauga Hide"~ as you called it) material to the back end. Instead of doing one large piece in the back only, I'm now thinking it might be better to do two smaller graft extensions on both ends. Keep the look more centered, ya know?

Things have come up this week that have kept me from working on this just yet. But I want to see about getting this done pretty soon, as I am hoping to get a Camp in on the Holiday weekend coming up. With a little luck, maybe my mom will help on this over this weekend. (I can't sew!)

    Anyone else have any suggestions?

<b><u>This Screen Room is Open to anyone else interested in it!!!</u></b>

I've chosen instead to buy the right one for my Camper and NOT Modify this one. Too much Work Load, and not enough Ambition, time, &/or Proper Skills/Know how to make this work for me and my camper have been the reasons for me to say...

"Hey, Let somebody who can Really use it, have it"<hr> "Pay It Forward" is the term I think that works here, so that is what I want to do. Contact me via PM or Email if your interested, and we can talk about the Shipping. I may or may not be able to cover that as well, it will just depend on the USPS Shipping rate.<hr><hr> I did NOT Modify or Alter this Screen Room at all, and it IS in Excellent Condition, as it was when I first received it.

    <font color=blue><u>Edit: More Information:</u></font id=blue>
Two things went wrong on my Free Screen Room. The Zippers don't match, and my Awning is 2 feet wider than the screen room is made for. Rather than ruin it by trying to make it work on my camper, I decided to let somebody have it that can USE it without having to change anything. I'll just get the right one for my camper instead.

Another Option for me is to get a Second Awning to use on the other side of the camper. That may still happen... but I don't really need a Screen Room for that side. <b>So this one is available to anyone who can use it!</b>

    Howdy folks. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_cowboy.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Cowboy Camper">

I've gotten a couple of emails from folks that are interested in the Screen Room, and I guess I need to give some more information on it. So, here goes.

It originally came from a '94 Starcraft Starflite 919 according to the man I got it from. My awning is an 11 footer, and this awning looks to me like it'll fit onto a 9 foot awning. That's the side to side measurement to a nearest foot, as you're looking at it from the side of the camper.

From the Outer Edge of the awning to the Wall of the Camper, I'd estimate this to be the standard 6 foot depth. So far as I know, all pop up campers are about the same with this measurement.

These are the <b>Nominal</b> Measurements. To my understanding, awning widths are typically made in 2 foot increments, and most awnings are typically One foot shorter than the Nominal Box length of the camper. I have a 12 foot camper and this didn't fit, so, if you have a 10 foot camper, chances are GOOD that this screen room will fit your awning.

Thanks for the interest in the screen room, and I hope to have a New Owner for it soon. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_cowboy.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Cowboy Camper">

One other fellow expressed an interest in it, but I think he needed the Velcro attachment. This one is a Zipper attachment. I haven't heard back from him yet.

You also sent me the First email 3 hours before the other fellow.

If you can use the Zipper Screen Room, I think you have one now. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_cowboy.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Cowboy Camper">

    Jeff,

You have it. I've had NO emails since I last posted on this topic, so you have it.

PM or Email me your Address, and let's start talking about the Shipping Details. Or we can talk about Meeting somewhere 1/2 way in a Mutual Drive.

One way or another, Let me know. I want this Screen Room to go to someone who is able to USE it without having to struggle on how to make it work.

I sent you a PM on this Jeff.

If you can use it, I hope to hear from ya soon. I took it OUT of the camper on Sunday to make it easier to get things in order for shipping or Pick Up. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_cowboy.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Cowboy Camper">

I officially no longer have a screen room. Jeff has it now after we met for lunch at El Famous Burrito on the South WEST corner of Harlem Ave. and 159th St. in Tinley Park. (I accidentally wrote South East in an email to Jeff ~ <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Black Eye">)

Anyhow, lunch was good (we haven't been there for years, it was good to go back) and it was nice to meet a couple more PUPer's from Illinois. Now I'm eager to see some pics of the screen room on your camper, sir! <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Smile"> That reminds me, I'll have to remember to call tomorrow to order the new one for my camper. I'll post up a pic of mine when it comes in, depending on the weather of course.

MMMMMMMM El Famous Burrito! We have one up here too, and it's awesome. The owner is a great guy too, I see him at Bears games.

Good luck with the new screen rooms to both of you, you'll enjoy them.

I ordered my new Screen Room on Monday, the 2nd. I picked it up on the 3rd. <b>Wrong One!!!</b> <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Disapprove"> (It had Velcro, not Zippers. Jeeze!)

Called back to Dealer the next day. Wasn't happy with what they told me. "Have to Order from Palomino, cannot get Direct from Dometic/A&E".

<b>WHY?</b> No good answer. <hr><font color=blue><b>EDIT</b>: The Zippered Rooms are only Available to OEM. In my case, Palomino. The fact that I'm Ordering from a Palomino <b>Dealer</b> evidently doesn't come into play here. As a Consumer, I'm only allowed to get the Velcro Version Direct from Dometic/A&E. As I said, no Good Answer.

<font color=red><b><u>Be Aware of this folks</b></u></font id=red> if you want to buy a Screen Room a year later after buying the camper. The Awning came from Palomino (and is the Zipper Version!) and even though I was going through the Dealer on this Screen Room, I was only allowed to get the Velcro version. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Angry">

I don't blame the Dealer in this process. Sharon was good enough to call me 15 minutes before they even opened the next day to let me know what the deal was on this. I was pretty pissed, but Everyone at the Dealer basically agreed with me that this a a Stupid Policy.

This Policy screw up cost me $80 bucks, but the Dealer did Not re-Charge the Shipping costs. And I'll give further Kudos to Sharon, cause she called me back with the info before they were even open the next day. When I asked about an amount of some sort of Dealer Incentive/concession, (eat the difference) I was Denied! But... I bought the Camper for $5000.00 off the M.S.R.P.

So much for any Free bunk light/fan Combo units, huh? </font id=blue><hr>
Anyhow, I got the Second new Screen Room tonight after work... with the Zippers. Cost $80.00 more, but now I have the proper product. It's been a heck of week for me on this dang thing, I'll tell ya.

And to top it all off.... I can't even work on this on Saturday or Sunday, cause it's gonna likely be Pouring down rain for the next 2 days. DRATS!

    <s>Or maybe I will anyway. Hmmm..... We'll see.</s><font color=green>
EDIT: No Way! Raining WAY too much!

    There's always Next Weekend. I Hope! </font id=green><img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_cowboy.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Cowboy Camper">

scott, i have had some luck with it. it does fit from front to back around the poles. but the top will have to be atached by binder clips for now. works great in the garage. but i can not raise the top enough to make sure. i will be camping in on 4/24 . i will take some pixs then. again thank you for the screen room.

That's good to hear, Jeff. I hope it'll work well for y'all after all. And, Your Welcome. Hope it get's put to good use! <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_cowboy.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Cowboy Camper">

I've finally tried out the Second new one a couple weeks ago and ran into another problem that I talked about HERE but the problem was solved pretty quickly after I had asked about it and thought of one of the answers given. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Approve">

I haven't worked with it since, but I'm sure it will be just fine the next time I try it out. Here's a pic so far of the new room.

Sure looks better than the one that didn't fit! Again, that Free one is better off in your hands than in mine. Good Luck with it, and I can't wait to see some pics. I'll post mine too when I have it Fully in place. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Smile">

It does have the Privacy Flaps, Jeff.

That helped a lot to justify the added expense and trouble I went through to get this thing. Instead of just the screen room, I accidentally got a hold of a full Add A Room.

Had I been able to make Your screen room work on my camper.... (you wouldn't have it today! <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Tongue"> ) but seriously, I was thinking about adding some Gray Tarps to it on the inside to make into an Add A Room too. Not sure how I would have done it, but I would have had my ma to maybe help sew on some Velcro for me to make that happen.

Hey, I'm just glad that it fits your Awning. I have confidence that you are gonna have better luck with it than I did. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Cool">
