Ah, I LOVE Ft. DeSoto! In fact, I like it so much that during a business trip to the Sarasota area in Feb, I had to go walk around the North beach and yes, the CG. Looks like all had a great time. Like the camper BTW, bu then again, I might be prejudice
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. Just gonna be relaxing with the wife and kids, maybe wet a line or two behind the site now and then if we aren't at the beach. No real plans.
Loved the video and Dude, Love the pup. Super nice. And lots of bedrooms. LOL! I am super stoked, I book our first camping trip this year. And first booking ever, and first time camping where, you guessed it, Ft. Desoto. 5 nights In june. I cant wait, and hubby said today, lets go buy a canoe tomorrow, Now im scared, LOL! Sharon
Will do, So are you saying the chiggers and skeeters are bad out there as well. We usually camp and EG Simmons, and man they are bad there, but they allow you to spray your site with ground treatment first, and it makes a total difference. Sharon
Yep. That is why we are going! Actually, we canceled our Hotel stay on St. Pete beach and used that deposit to pay for the whole week at Ft. Desoto, We figured, When we stay at the hotel, We are always traveling to the pier to fish, and going to Ft. Desoto, So hey, might as well just stay there, So I looked, and OMG! They had one spot open on the water for that week only. So it was mean to be. So I booked, then canceled the hotel. Okay, So for those of us never camped there. What are some of the must do and dont's. Like, is it safe to leave food in the pup. Or better to leave it all in the car. Are camp fires permitted? What is the nicest, easiest beach to spend the day at? Best place to fish, and using what kind of bait to catch what kind of fish. Best place to canoe (Im asking, because Im headed to Dicks in a few to buy a canoe, Im scared now, lol) Any thing else you can tell me would greatly be appreciated. Back in a while. Sharon
Food in the pup is fine. Though the raccoons are big and not afraid of you, just keep a clean site and everything will be fine.
One thing off the list, Just picked up our new canoe. We got the Old town Sportsman 14. It was on sale for $399. Hubby said that was too good to pass. So we finally got a canoe. Taking it to Ft. Desoto tomorrow to try it out, and look at our camp site for june. Sharon
Umm here is my wifes cell number. Could you please give her a call and explain to her the logical reasoning behind owning a canoe for camping. Congrats on the purchase and yes we will be getting one soon....
Well, my hubby said, its a lot easier to throw the canoe on top of the pup then it is to take 2 cars and one pull the camper and one pull the Bass tracker. So we will see how much fun it is tomorrow. Now just have to search the canoe rack threads and see what I need to build to put it on the roof. Sharon
DO NOT leave a cooler outside unless it has a tight catch or put something heavy on it. The raccoons are smart. Friends of ours went one time and while they were sleeping the raccoons opened their cooler and drank all their beer. There was empty beer cans everywhere. Plus a couple of drunk raccoons walking around their site in the morning. It was funny yet it wasn't. Now they had to go for more beer.
I don't think you can have ground fires. Could probably take a fire pit and I know I used a charcoal grill. North Beach is nice (Dr. Beach rated it #1 in the US in 2005). I also like the smaller beach that faces South near the picnic area and pier. Less wind often, etc. I think the Sunshine Skyway bridge is pretty on a sunny day just before sunset. Food in the pup's ok but as others say, don't leave cooler outside. Raccoon will absolutely raid you. Go to the area near the canoe/kayak rental area. you can canoe from there easily.
