Anyone been there? Share any info on the park? A good friend wants us to come down for a visit.

Stayed there last fall. Very small campground but quiet. As for things to do, it depends on what you want to do. They have ranger nature talks and guided walks, hayrides, etc.

You can read what I wrote on my website about it here.

We stayed there this fall, had a good time. Just make sure you your TW can pull you PU up that steep grade to the campsite (and good brakes on the way down). Not much to the park itself, winter you get a good view of the falls from the bottom, and of course breath taking view at the top. Good Georgia State park to make a day trip, but there are better ones in the North Georgia mountians to camp at.

I love Amicalola Falls for the hiking trails. It's near the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain. I agree with lamorton about there being better parks, though. I like Vogel SP and Unicoi SP, also located in the North Georgia Mountains.

I believe Amicalola Falls is the closest to their house. Pictures looked beautiful. Wasn't sure about the campground.

The area is definitely gorgeous. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I haven't camped there, but Amicalola Falls is only about an hour from my house. DH and I have spent many Saturdays at the park enjoying the mountains. If you go, check out the view from the lodge. It's outstanding.

    Ahhh Amicalola Falls.
I have never camped there but I have hiked the approach trail to the Appalacian Trail from there.
My fondest memory is that I gave my wife her engagement ring while on the bridge at the top of the falls.

I cant wait to go back with the wife and kids.

We had a nice trip to Amicalola Falls this past weekend, in spite of dd's being on crutches and the rain!

Amicalola is just beautiful - we will have to go back, as we didn't get to hike much, and hiking on trails that are a bit more challenging is one of our favorite things to do.

The visitor center had interesting displays, and we especially enjoyed reading about the early AT hikers.

We enjoyed a few ranger programs - the owl ambassadors they have are just beautiful.

The cg is pretty small, but the sites are fairly private.

We didn't see any bears this trip, just evidence of raccoons.

We'll definitely have to go back!

Along the way, up 400, there are a few stores - like Walmart, and in Dawsonville, a Food Lion with good selection, in case you forgot something.

(We also like Unicoi, but our recollection of Vogel wasn't that positive. We haven't been there in about 19 years, so things have changed / improved, I'm sure.)
