Here is a geocache hidden by a fellow geocacher at Hennepin State Park, MN. We finally found it using a GPS that the State Park loaned to us.

Best Buy has a progam with MN state parks where Best Buy donated several demo GPS units to a number of MN state parks in MN.

We ended up going to Best Buy and buying our own GPS unit! Now my son is hooked!!

Note: Geocaching is a fun activity as kids get older and want something more challenging in their hiking.

We went out this morning and found 5 of 6 at Thunderbird State Park here in Oklahoma. We too just got started and are hooked. It's a great family activity (If we could get our teenage daughters to go I guess it would be for us too!). We tried a micro cache but never found it. All the others where ammo cans. We are up to 6 finds and 2 DNF. Enjoy your time out and have fun!

You did very well! Congratulations on the finds. Do you log your finds on the geocaching website, like my son does?

With a GPS and a set of coordinates you locate a hidden cache. Each cache contains different things, generally little trinkets such as McToys, keyrings, whistles, etc. I find it's just the thrill of the hunt & find. As I mentioned before we just purchased a Garmin Etrex Vista and have been out two times and have enjoyed both trips. Almost like camping!! We have also discovered parts of Norman, Ok. that we didn't even know existed!

    It's such a fun hobby!

We just let our first Travel Bugs loose this past weekend. Four of them are going to the 4 corners of the country. The other one was dropped off on a weekend trip 300 miles away and is set up to come home. Or as close as it can get.

I just got the email that the first one was picked up from where I left it and is now on it's way!

I can't wait to watch them all go on their trips! Since I can't go with them, I have to live vicariously!

    So far I have 10 finds and 2 DNF's

We really enjoy Geocaching although we don't do it all the time especially when there are a lot of other unique things to do.

Fundy National park has placed 5 geocaches at notable points in the trail systems and created a "passport" of sorts that you punch as you find each cache. When you complete all five finds you take your passport to the office and they give you a unique Parks Canada Fundy National Park Geocoin. It was a really fun adventure!
