For visitors in the southeast Kansas area or travel-thru, I can recommend two area campgrounds that are nice: Parsons, KS, Marvel Park - Located near the east edge of parson on main street, Marvel park is the site of an older, local sports field. It includes a football field and baseball/softball fields. Behind the large roofed stadium is a 20+ slot campground with good pads and lots of shade. About 1/2 of the slots have electrical and water hookups. There is a dump station at the northwest corner of the stadium. The campground is about 3-4 blocks off of main street and is normally quiet unless you happen to be there during a ball game (not all bad). We used to travel to SE Kansas often to visit and used the campground on a regular basis. Best of all I believe the price is still $5/night Chanute Kansas, Safari Park - Located 35th south and Santa Fe on the south edge of town. The park has about 30 compact sites with water and electric. Safari is about 1/2 mile from the Nu-Way, Hitchhiker factory and the campground serves a lot of their customers who bring trailers in for service. There is a very nice city lake and sports complex close and the first 48 hours are FREE, then $10/night. Dump station is available.
