[TV] [HYC] I was told by a police officer to program my home address to take me about a mile or so from my actual home address.

He said that numerous cars were stolen at the shopping mall and the thieves used the GPS to go to the persons home, then used the garage door opener to park in the garage while they vandalized and stole what they wanted from the home. Then left in the stolen vehicle with all the items they got outta the home.

My Home addy is the local McDonald's restaurant about 1 mile from my home.

My GPS doesn't have a "home" link. I just enter my hometown when I'm on my way back and I can take it from about 30-50 miles out. Who needs turn by turn to get home from that far?

My home address in the GPS is the local Police station... figure if the person wants to break into something, why not the cop shop.. [:D]

I listed my house as the local Waffle House, but then I changed it to the city dump. I only use the "go home" point for an ETA anyway.

    Trav...

The "go home waypoint" is a good one to have.

If you're on the way home, but still a few Provinces or States away, and you come across some major road construction, highway closed due to accident, or get turned around while doing some unexpected sightseeing, you do the go home thing and it gets you right back in line.

I never set the "Go Home" thing either, because I figured that I know where I live.

Trav, I think you may be missing the point. We all know where we live, but we may not know the most efficient way to "get there from here". Especially if we are somewhere we've never been before (which is one of my primary deciding criteria on a CG). When I travel in new areas, I may not know all the shortcuts and access points for interstates, etc. As I said earlier, I usually turn it off when I'm in familiar territory unless I want to keep the ETA running.

My "home" is the police station also! but in my favorites is "Keith's house" so the wife can find home. She has a problem with left and right so gets lost occasionally, but never long enought to get a good movie in [:D]

That's a great idea for the dumbest crooks, but your home address is usually on the registration in the car.
Shouldn't take a determined thief very long to figure that out.
And then plug it into the GPS you so kindly provided.

Well considering the guys that installed our garage door system couldn't figure out how to get the buttons to work in my DH's new F-150 (they said they always have problems with Ford home link systems) even if they got here they wouldnt get in. And it's a detached garage.

But all the same I think we'll change the address to the local jail! [}:)]

That's why ownership is in a different location.. besides most thieves are smash and grab types.. much faster to grab a GPS then sit looking through papers for the ownership.. NOT saying it wont happen, but less likely to..

Snow, you are absolutely correct for smash and grab. But, the OP was talking about the car being stolen and the GPS taking him to the owner's home.
