Dear Grandpa,

Last year we lost Grandma on November 26th. At that time I had a forum of my own where I posted a Memorial like this to honor and remember her by, but now I cannot do that for you as well. It doesn't really matter I suppose... but I DO want to post something similar for you as well. I guess this is my best opportunity.

Having lived in the nursing home for the last few years, there have been many times when the rest of us Family really couldn't tell if you were fully aware of Grandma's passing. Again, it no longer matters. You are finally reunited with your beloved wife of many years, and for this we are very glad. Towards the very end we had asked if you are looking forward to being with Grandma again, and in your own way you had let us know that you were indeed ready to go to be with her. Just a slight nod of your head is all that you could tell us, but we understood.

At the very end, my Mom had said it best. "It's OK, Dad, if you are tired of fighting anymore... It's OK to let it go....We will miss you, and we will be sad.... but we understand."

Grandpa, We will all miss you and Grandma very much. But we all take a comfort with Grandma's own words before she left us. "We had a good 81 Years" she said. Well.... You and her DID have a good and long happy life together. Within that life that you had together, you two have passed on a whole great deal of Love and Support to 3 Generations! Your sons, us Grandkids, and even Mark's son and my daughter. I bet ya didn't know that you would have such an impact on so many people, huh?

But you did. And we are ALL so very Proud of you and Grandma for having lived the lives that you have. You and her have touched us all in a great way, you will both be missed very much, and we are Thankful to God above for having been Touched in our lives by you both.

Uncle Mike asked if I had a "Grandpa Story" on that last day we were together. I did not. But I often portray my feelings through music or song. So I have two that I'd like to include here tonight sir. The first one is a sad Country Tune that really fit well when my Mom was telling you that it's OK to let go, and the other is a song that Grandma really enjoyed when cousin Jill or Brad played it when you were at home the last time a few years back. I think you'll know it well.

You Can Let Go

My only hope is that my daughter can say the same for me someday.

Here's the one that Grandma really enjoyed. The one that really touched us all.

Remember When~ Alan Jackson

Of all the regrets that I have, the greatest would be that I never had the guts or the nerve to say this all out loud while you both were still with us. My only hope and Prayer is that you both can see this from above... and know that I miss you much.

    Nicely written Scott,

I am quite sure if anyone would have asked your grandparents what their greatest achievement in life was, the answer would have been "our family".

My condolences to you and all your family. Rest easier now, knowing they are together again.

Scott, you may not have spoken this to him while he was with you, but I'm sure he felt your love each and every day.

Thank you for sharing your tribute to your Grandpa.

So sorry for your loss, Cowboy! Grandparents are special indeed. Mine have been gone for a very long time, and my children will sadly grow up never knowing what a Grandpa is!

What a great way to honor him!

I just wanted to stop by here and thank y'all for the kind comments.

A Special Thanks goes out to Cara, for she has been with me via PM's here on this and a couple of other things going on in my life.

    Thanks everyone.

Scott... What a touching tribute to your grandpa. If you can write something like this, and feel this way, I'd rest assured they both knew how much you cared about them.

Its reading things like this that put things in a whole new perspective all over again. Not that its about anyone but your grandpa, but I think you get what I mean.

I hope youtube still exists or that song is available when I'm older and enjoying time with my wife. That "Remember when" is one to play with your significant other in later years.

Truly, thanks for sharing this with us Scott, very touching!

I believe you still have my email address? I may not have nearly as much life experience as you, but I'll lend an ear at any time!
