    Hey gang!

My name is Paul and I live in Boone, NC. My wife and I (no kids, unless you count our insane 5 month old Red Heeler puppy) have been adamant campers, hikers, and backpackers for many years. We've always sneered (good-naturedly) at her parents when they brought their popup with them on camping trips. Last summer, during a torrential downpour in the NC mountains, we actually decided to take them up on their offer to share their camper with us - and we were sold.

That being said, I know absolutely nothing about campers. I'm fairly handy, and we're lucky enough to have a fair amount of play-money (read the part about no kids) so I'm considering purchasing a very used Coleman camper and tinkering around with it. I'm looking for something small, since it's just the two of us, and while my Tundra is fully capable of pulling something bigger, I'd like to get something that would be towable by my wife's Jeep Wrangler as well.

The thing that brought me to this forum was this post: http://www.popupportal.com/index.php?topic=55913.0;prev_next=prev#new so I'm looking forward to contacting the original poster to hopefully pick his/her brain.

Thanks in advance for any helpful information, good-natured ribbing, or harsh criticisms :)

    I'm off to google "whiffletree".

welcome from down hill. I love the idea of making a pup yours. Great satisfaction in the personalization process. You have a great area right at your doorstep, gonna be tough to beat the Carolina Mountains for a place to camp, but it'll be cool trying.....

Welcome Paul, from down the mountain in Shelby. Your also welcome to join Darrin(yetavon), me (bud121156),and maybe others from this forum, at Kings Mountain State Park,Blacksburg,South Carolina, the weekend of May 15-17. Looking for a big outing this year. Anyone is welcome to join. Several have already reserved. The Saturday pot luck/group meal with numerous dutch ovens, and a low country boil, will be somewhere in Loop 2.

    Hi Paul, Welcome from Ohio.

So sleeping in a pup does agree with you? Especially in bad weather?

Hope you find one to make yours, and enjoy!

WOW! Thanks so much for all the warm welcomes. DW and I currently live in Boone, but we're both from Raleigh, spent many years in Wilmington, then several more in Charlotte - it sounds like I'm in good company :)

Found a PUP that I'm interested in purchasing - wife is onboard and we're going to try to go see it sometime in the next few days (if the weather breaks). Will make a great garage project until the spring.

We'd love to join you guys at some of the rallies - Wilkesboro is very convenient :) We love meeting new folks, and cooking and sharing, and if there's a cold bottle of suds in there somewhere, well, we're ok with that too :)

Will keep everyone posted in the Restorations section of the forum if/when we purchase our PUP - then will be asking for a good marriage counselor when DW realizes how much money we'll end up sinking into another one of my hair-brained projects :p

Thanks for the friendly welcomes everyone!

Hi Paul. Another welcome from the RDU area. There are a lot of great Carolina campers here and some great Dutch Oven cooks. Come join us at any of the rallies. Happy Trails!
