Hauling water

We had a two room privacy tent. One for the shower and one room for a Thetford Porta Pottie. For showers we used a zodi water pump that came with their instant hot water set. We would heat and mix the water in a 5 gallon bucket then drop the pump in and turn it on. Worked great for us. It took about 2.5 gallons per shower. So in 10 days camping we would use 50 gallons or so. We tried to locate a fresh water source before setting up camp. Out west that did not work well for the lack of water fill areas.

Fresh water is closer to 8.35 lbs./Gal. Every three gallons is an extra pound.

8.3 lbs. per gallon would be 24.9 lbs. for 3 gallons. a Transverse ain't going to cut it. You would probably need a 3/4 truck. until I get the LW where she can be happy not needing more than one shower per day we are stuck in a campground with full hook ups.

So, I just returned from my CO elk hunt the other week. I pulled mu Coleman Utah (BIG pop-up camper 3.5K#+) up the 17% grade rocky mountain jeep trails fully loaded with my fully loaded Silverado Z71 1500 crewcab. I waited until I got to town (from NC) to load my perishable foods and fill my water tank. I also got a 55gal water drum that I placed in the bed and it was directly over the rear axle. I think my camper holds 40-ish gallons? I was prepared for 2-1/2wks for washing and showering. We had bottled water for drinking.

Sheesh! Mine only holds about 20ish gallons!

If I was going all the way from NC to CO I think I might hold off on that extra 55 gallons until the last stage of the drive as well. Actually if I had truck-bed tanks that were easy to fill, I'd travel with the popup tank empty. The truck is better equipped to carry water than the trailer.

Your Fleetwood Utah has a 20 gal underfloor fresh water tank so along with 6 gals in the water heater tank your total capacity is just 26 gals.

There are a lot of potable water storage tanks and transfer pumps available. The bad news is water is heavy (8.33 lbs per gallon), be sure your TV can handle it along with everything else you take.

Seems like freezing would hurt them, but they're advertising them for use in frozen conditions so <shrug>

That’s 880lbs of additional tow weight. I’m jealous your vehicle can handle that!

When I bought my last TV, I kept things like that in mind. I didnt want to have to worry about whether I was trying to tow too much weight or haul too much weight in the TV. When I leave home my TT has 58 gallons of fresh water in it and 3 to 5 gallons in the black tank. If we are going someplace that doesnt have accessible water we carry a 8 gallon water jug full and a case or two of bottled water for just in case.

Extra capacity with the TV is nice. The excess payload I can dedicate to water is so much greater than the amount I'd want to carry that I'm not worried. It'll just smooooooth out the ride.

(I haven't made much progress on this project. Hard to get inspired when there's nowhere to go due to fires. And now we're back in school...But I think it'll be a worthwhile endeavor.)

I tried out the shower the trip before last and used 2 gallons for a navy shower. I thought that was fairly good.

I left yesterday driving close to 400 miles heading to a full hookup site. I pulled out with a full tank. We wont hookup to city water all week. I'll fill the tank back as needed.

Do you leave the pup unattended for 4-8 hours remote? I’m wondering about bears messing or dumb idiots checking it out.
