Had to keep my daughter’s cat while she was on vacation. She brought cat littler in a large bucket with a nice flip up lid. I am curious if any of you have found good uses for these when camping.

I have found many uses, such as a bait /caught fish bucket for the boat, trash can, they will even hold water if needed, dirty clothes etc.

Used it as a gray water container on my small trips where I don’t want to lug my big one. Also used it as a trash can.

If it's the large one it holds enough charcoal for a weekend trip and you don't have to worry about it getting wet. As mentioned they make a good trash can. Tool bucket, small parts bucket, water bucket to keep near the campfire. I have several around the house for various uses.

They make great fishing buckets. Sit on it, catch a bunch of fish, toss them in the bucket without standing up!.
There are some good ideas above. Going to out charcoal in one now.

I have two five-gallon buckets in the camper and another one I keep in the F-150. I have no problem finding uses.

We use one for the gray water bucket, once we pry the lid off. When we had a slightly different outside kitchen set-up, we would dry it out and pack the table cover and (previous) cook set in it.
We use them as buckets to wash the vehicles, etc.; the majority get recycled these days unless we need to replace one that we're using.

There are TONS of uses for those buckets. Dry storage, bait bucket, with some woodworking skill to adapt a seat, bucket toilet. The limit is your creativity.

I use them for all kids of things.

For the camper, I use them for the gray water collection, toiletry stock (extra toilet paper and chemical) for the porta-potty and also use one for general storage like the front jack wheel/plate and such.

I also use several in the garage to keep the bird seed in. They work great to keep the mice out. I also put a bucket on the back patio for use as a temporary drop bucket for the bags of used cat litter that the DW and DD collect and don't want to walk out to the garbage can when the weather is bad.

I've been thinking about using one this winter to store a sand/salt mix to throw on the bituminous driveway when it gets iced over.

The lid hinges don't hold up real well but with three cats in the house, I always have another bucket around to replace the broken ones.

Don't know about mice, but it barely slows a squirrel.

I keep oil dry in one, and ice melt in another. Nothing camping related I guess.

Squirrels are the reason the seed buckets stay in the garage.

One of the cat litter containers has become the cat food container at the manor.

I've noted some of the other ideas for future reference as well.

Now that I think about it, I should probably scoop the cat box tomorrow…

I had to go look up what a CAT LITTER BUCKET looks like...

I could find several uses for this in the camping mode...

When I first clicked on the thread, I thought it would he about using cat litter in a bucket as a cheap alternative to a porta potty and had any one found a use for the waste, so I clicked out of curiosity.

Uses for the square cat litter bucket with flip open lid.

    • Water resistant carrier for charcoal. Keep your charcoal by the grill and don't let it get wet from those sudden afternoon showers.
    • Container for equipment you want to keep sanitary such as potable water hose, water filter, pressure regulator etc...
    • Extra somewhat protected storage for dry foods. Note this will only slow down rodents, not stop them!
    • With bags, litter, and an improvised seat, a cheap camp toilet.
    • Gray water catch bucket.
    • Container to haul small firewood pieces / fire starter.
    • Container for things best contained should they spill like dish or laundry soap.
    • To go toybox for the kids.
    • Container for smaller sporting goods. Baseball gloves and balls come to mind...

I like that they have 90 degree corners. Waste less space than a 5 gallon round bucket.
