I am wanting to break the norm (mountains and waterfalls) for some beach camping next year. I live about 9 hours from Pensacola. We stay at Gulf Shores in a condo every few years but are trying to go on less money these days. I am looking for a nice clean cg walking distance to beach and nice bath houses. I usually prefer SP. Where should we check Flo Folks?

We have gone to Fort Pickens for the last 2 summers. Make sure to reserve early and get a site with shade. Pictures on recreation.gov. We love it!

I have looked at most of those sites. St George looked like what we were after.

Big Lagoon SP is in Pensacola. I used to live right down the street from there. Decent park. It is on the Intracoastal with beach. If you want Atlantic beach, you have to drive to Perdido Key. However, this is the same general area that you have been staying in a condo, so I am sure you are familiar with the area.

Henderson Beach looks good too. Less travel time is a plus with a 3 year old. Is august a good time to go? I have to schedule around 3 jobs.

As long as there is no hurricane and you can stand 96 degree weather with heat indexes of 102

We live in west TN. It actually feels better at the beach because of the breeze.

I spent some time on a wildfire in NC where we were getting indices of 125. In the coastal bays and pocosin. That was worse than anything I've experienced anywhere else.

I suspect you were very close to me here in NC then. Dependent upon when this was we were on the same fire

I worked from Wilmington to Pamlico that year. 2009 I think. Ate at a place called the fish hook at Harkers Island. Best seafood ever. I've really wanted to camp the OBX since then.

We just returned from Fort Desoto (our first camp out with the pup) and it was just lovely.
