So last weekend I was given a Coleman Columbia that has been sitting for 3 years. I have a couple things I need help with. The previous owner used a bent piece of wire to keep the roof up as seen in the following pic. What went there originally? Also Is this canvas beyond repair? Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Can't help with the roof. However, that looks to be the 1980s Evolution fabric. That tends to break into layers, get thin, and is pretty much beyond use when it looks like yours. We eked a couple of years out of the tenting on a 1984 Palomino, but eventually we had to replace the canvas. (We did a pretty complete renovation in 2010, but fabric had been gone a couple of years by that point.) It's difficult to repair fabric that has no integrity. Here's a section to look through: http://www.popupportal.com/index.php?board=56.0
All they had was a hook look at page 11 of the following https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/37743407/COLEMAN%20PARTS%20BOOK/1985/1985%20coleman%20americana%20%26%20pioneer%20series.pdf As for the canvas it could be patch for a year but it needs new canvas.
I plan on getting new canvas next year. Id like to use it once or twice this year so may try some sort of temporary patch for the time being Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Gorilla tape is better than duct tape. I would also use a tarp over the pup in case of rain issues. I bought pole extensions to support the tarp and staked to the ground.
That is the way the Colemans hold up the roof. It's a heavy piece of wire that loops over one of the pins.
