I just got a 1998 StarCraft. I believe it has a Shelby 5438 lift system on it. When you crank it, it starts to go up then starts popping and won’t go. With help pushing the top it will occasionally grab and go up then start popping again. Looking underneath at it I think the teeth on the gears may be worn. Could that be it? Any way to suggest to fix it? I have read you can’t order parts for that lift anymore.

How expensive is it to have the whole lift system changed out?

Thanks

I believe my pup has the same issue. Took a video of my granddaughter trying to crank it up (be sure to turn on the audio):

Cornstalk, you should start a different thread due to the fact that your lift system is different and you don’t want to hijack this thread.

Repairs like this come down to the same few parameters. Time, money, expertise, and parts availability.

If you have the money and can find a new complete system, that will give you long time reliability and the highest cost.

If you can find replacement parts, and can do the work, that's the usual and customary repair around here.

Side note, I'm trying to remember anyone swapping out one style lift for another and can't remember any examples.

If you can't find new replacement parts a welding shop may be able to repair yours.

I gou under there last night and sprayed some WD-40 on everything. I took a video. Not sure how to post that.
It will raise a few inches then when it gets to a certain spot on that larger gear it starts popping and clicking. Here is a better picture of the gears themselves .

Just found a video that might give you some ideas about the lift problem. He thought he might need a new lift system due to the popping sound, but it was an easy fix:
