About 2006, we were camping at a Texas State Park (Garner) and had our "Kamping Kitty" with us. She was about 1/2 grown and loved to travel in the car and once at our site would just hang around the trailer. We watched her very carefully but she never ran off or explored more than 100' away.

We had set up hammocks at our site and I was reading/relaxing in one one night just about twilight and the cat was outside too. I heard leaves crackling and something brushed against my butt hanging down in the hammock so I reached my hand down and petted the cat. Except it wasnt' the cat -- it was a SKUNK that had wandered into our campsite. Guess he didn't mind getting petted cause he just continued on his way very calmly as I very calmly tried to get up, get the cat, and retreat to our camper before he decided to NOT be so calm!

:pOh, that would so be something I do. From now on I'm looking before blindly petting.

Skunks are quite friendly and seem to like humans.
