Hey there!! Hubby and I just bought our first PUP. Thankful for this forum as I have little knowledge on our camper. Believe it's a 1990 Palamino. Everything on the inside is definitely outdated, but makes for fun crafting projects. Can't wait to take the PUP out for the weekend and see what works and what doesn't haha. Love reading everyone's experience and hoping to learn from others stories. 2012 Kia Sorento 1990 Palamino P.s. Terrified of bears...
Welcome from New Mexico. We do quite a bit of our camping in Colorado. Bears are more of a problem in some places then others, and in some years are worse. In some places, there are bear boxes to stash your food - we tried to camp at Great Sand Dunes a few years back in our pup, and the box was in the (challenging) campsite. (Long story, but we ended up eating a quick supper and heading home, we were more than ready after a 2 week+ trip.) In one of our favorite campgrounds in CO, near Creede, they had a problem with bears for a couple of years, but it has vastly improved since they added bear resistant trash containers. Keeping a clean campsite - no food or trash left unattended in the site, etc. - goes long way to preventing any animal problems - we've seen far more issues from ravens and squirrels (not in our sites) in the 4 Corners States than anything else.
Yikes!!! Were they black bears? I would've high tailed it out of there myself! We haven't camped in our PUP yet. Well until Monday, then we are heading to Lake Wellington, near Bailey. We love that spot, been there a bunch with our tent. Also up in the Poudre Canyon near Fort Collins. Never encountered a bear while camping, but my anxiety is always high come bed time.
