How do you use/repurpose the other bed when you only travel as a couple

Hi. I’m new to the group and posted this first in the bed/bunk section but I think this is a more appropriate spot

I’d love to hear/see any ideas you might have. We will mainly be travelling as just the two of us and hate to waste all that extra space.

we do plan to move the mattress from the one side to our side to give us a thicker mattress while we are set up but wonder about how others use the extra space

Thanks so much for your ideas!

We keep our clothes, some toiletries and all of the wife's over packed bags of "stuff" on the unused bunk end.

Mine is used as storage. I dump everything on the back bunk and close the curtains. I keep stuff stored in my camper all the time for when I camp off grid (solar panel) or if I have to bring multiple dogs (dog crate) however all that stuff has to go somewhere if I’m not using it. When the kiddo or my mom camp with me the hard part is where to put the gear that doesn’t take up my couch or table.

Luggage. The interior storage is basically unused, because that extra bunk is there and easier to use.

Yep camping with kids suitcases and gear were in truck. Trips without kids we could bring the clothes in and sit on the other bed.

    Luggage.
If it’s very humid or raining, we will also hang damp towels or clothes in that space.
This summer, our adult daughter took some vacation time to travel and camp with us. She is small statured, and set up the bunk so she had plenty of space AND we could still use it for luggage.

Just the two of us now, too. We have two king size bunk ends, we sleep in the rear bunk "behind" the bathroom with a king size air mattress on top. The front bunk behind the couch is where we put all the kitty stuff. We have a rubber backed rug that we put on top of the mattress and the covered litter box, scratch board, kitty beds and carriers all fit on there. We even have room for our two backpacks with our clothes.

Everybody's pretty much got it. In our former camper the unused twin bunk was "the attic", holding the odd milkcrate of gear or food, an extra suitcase, clothes that didn't get folded, etc. Once you get used to having that extra space it's really hard to go back to the intended use of somebody actually sleeping in the bunk!

We call our extra bunk "the reading nook". I recently added a macrame curtain to give it a secluded feeling.

Storage. My wife will pack the entire closet if I would let her.

We put carpet squares on the front bunk area and that's where the clothes, food, cooler, and anything else goes. When setting up, the front mattress gets moved to the back (both same size) to improve the cushioning of the back bunk. Our bunks are only 4' x 6' so it's a close night but we don't mind. :)

Ours is certainly the daytime catch all area.... It is usually pretty full of everything one might need somewhere along the trip... We always do our wrap around seating in a day bed mode like shown here - great for both of us setting and watching HDTV... Access to my Ham Radio Console is to the right of this wrap around seating...

Also close the curtains on the end used for storage, this helps with the heat and air. I use a couple of close pins to keep them closed.

When it was DW and I only in the PUP, the far side of each bunk was storage for clothes and such, and the inside of each bunk was a space for each of us. That way, we didn't have to climb over each other to get in or out.

If it's just the two of us (rare,) I get my own bunk and his sandy butt can sleep on the other one. I'm picky about sand or crumbs in my bed and DH is a slob. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's the truth, so is what it is.

We throw the mattress on our side and like others use it for our luggage & extra gear

After having our tiny pup with one bunk end, gaining that extra bunk in the second pup was great. We no longer had to shift so much stuff morning and evening. We just kept our clothing duffels, laundry bag, etc. there. We would close the curtain in cold weather, so there wasn't as much space to keep warm. We left the heavy dinette table at home, using s small molded table instead - when we wanted a bit of extra floor space, we could set the table on the back bunk too.

We place a night stand on either side facing each other with a 50” flat screen setting far enough back for the drawers to open without hitting the screen. Gives 4 drawers for storage and behind the tv and out of sight we store everything not being used. The mattress goes to the end we sleep on for more cushion. Curtains draw plenty to cover ends of night stands and if not watching tv, the bed slide out base in front of tv gives Extra Temporary table/counter area. Want to tile that area so its not just looking like pressed plywood.
