Howdy all, my name's George, I live in Wyoming and I've joined your nice forum here in hopes to learn and share info on camping and more particularly, pop-ups. [8D]

Currently we do a fair amount of tent camping, [CP] but with a large family (twin girls age six and a three year old boy) my wife and I are thinking of getting a camper. I'm leaning heavily towards a PUP so that we can pull it with out '12 Town and Country instead of a hard sided camper and burning twice as much fuel in the truck (with less room and comforts)

Our current favorite via online shopping is the Flagstaff Highwall HW27KS, but local dealers really don't bother with PUPs so we'll be checking some out on our trip down to NM next month. We're also considering going with a smaller and cheaper unit with plant to probably upsize to a larger TT or 5er once the kids get larger.

Anyway, enough of my rambling, I just wanted to chime in with an intro and say Howdy to the folks here. :)

Welcome to the Portal from northern IL. There are so many gently used (and loved) PUPS. We started with a '91 Skamper and within 2 years got a '98 Mustang Palomino. Once you get the bug, life is better. Your kids are the perfect age. This was our 3rd year of camping in a PUP that we own. We've borrowed in the past when our adult kids were young.

Welcome. For a family of 5 you could go with a 10' or 12' box. In either case, if you are used to tent camping, you could keep it pretty simple. There are lots of choices out there that you can pull with the minivan. I would try to stay a little on the lighter side given the fact that you are likely to potentially do some serious hill pulling out there, lots of options under 2900 GVWR for you.

    Thanks again for the welcomes.

After much deliberating and comparing layouts and specs I think we have changed our mind and instead of the highwall we'll be going with the Flagstaff 627D classic series. I won't be ordering it until probably January or February so my mind may of course change between now and then!
