I think it sounds worse than it is. They were going to close for about a month for fire prevention and maintenance the day after we were leaving anyway. So I'm guessing they just chose to stay closed until after. There's a site somewhere where you can see the damage from a satellite view, and the park itself doesn't look that bad. I'm sure there's some downed trees, but the buildings seem to have survived. The neighborhood just west of the park shows a good bit of damage though, which makes me think it might take a while for the power to be restored there.
