It can be very confusing, as older campers (my ‘94) used “white = negative, black = positive”. My ‘14 and current ‘18 use a (more standard/ automotive style) “red = positive, black = negative”… then throw in anything that’s been added on. You really need to check before guessing and hooking up. It is dangerous to to think or say things like “black is always ground”.

I know! But I’m stuck at a campground trying to get home. I just need to lift my tongue jack and make sure my trailer brakes and emergency brake work. When I get home I’ll get a multimeter and check them.

Found the other red. It came from under the trailer. Added it to the positive. So far so good; just need to get home!

Just a suggestion ........ when you get it all sorted out ......... mark or paint all the ground wires one color .....WHITE .... would be a good choice. And mark and paint all the positive wires one color .......... RED ....... would be a good choice for you (I do black).
NOW protection ........ the wire that feed the lift motor or tongue jack will usually have their own inline circuit breakers ......... The wire going to the breakaway switch goes directly to the positive post ....... any remaining positive wires should be connected to a inline circuit breaker that is connected to the positive post.

What a mess. Lots of good info mixed with bad info in this thread. Hope you can sort it out when you get back home. Like others say, mark your wires once you have figured it out.

For sure, you have likely blown the "REVERSE POLARITY" fuse which is located in the fuse panel on the CONVERTER.

Do you think that a couple of the wires go to a brake breakaway switch?
I think the brake breakaway switch will have one black wire most likely going to the positive battery post. The other black wire on the switch go's to the the brake wiring. All the brake breakaway switch I have seen have two black wires of maybe 14 guage
