The RV Industry Association’s January 2021 survey of manufacturers determined that total RV shipments ended the month with 45,930 units, an increase of 39.2% compared to the 33,003 units shipped during January 2020, making this the best January shipment total on comparable record.

“RV shipments show no sign of slowing down,” said RV Industry Association President & CEO Craig Kirby. “RV manufacturers and suppliers are producing a record number of units to meet the continued demand from consumers looking to make RVing a part of their active outdoor lifestyle.”

Towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, finished the month up 40.7% against last January with 41,414 wholesale shipments. Motorhomes ended the month up 26.6% compared to January 2020 with 4,516 units.

I did some digging and looks like they bought out a bus manufacturer and are closing it.

But type As are slightly down, all of the increase is in Bs and Cs. It's a bus factory.

Could be they are playing corporate games. I know the auto manufacturers do it all the time. Buy a place, then negotiate for the best tax package from the local government. Package not good enough? Sorry, we have to close the plant. Local governments reconsider tax breaks, renegotiate with FR, plant gets retooled and they are making campers.

That facility makes shuttle buses, not RVs. Not sure why Forest River bought them last May. I wonder if they had plans to secure the tooling and equipment, and relocate to one of their other brand plants for Class B units? Looks like El Dorado was pretty much focused on providing light/medium duty shuttle buses to airport/rental/hotel customers, which of course has been down significantly since last spring.

I’m no expert, with that in mind I vote it’s part of some corporate strategy, expansion or restructuring. There are things that go on in the corporate world that the reasoning is not readily apparent. Sadly sometimes those things are an inverse impact to a community at large. We certainly have witnessed that here in the PNW. RV related, several years ago my area had a fiberglass component mfg facility, the bulk of production was components for class A motor homes and hard side trailers. They were a significant employer. The parent company sold and the new company came in and publicly announced they were committed to the community and their new employees. Their commitment lasted about two years. Turns out they were the number 3 mfg of fiberglass components for transportation, RV’s, and upfitters nationally. They shuttered the the factory, reportedly to increase their market share through their other product lines. It never reopened.

A story played out repeatedly across the country I know. It still leads to an adverse impact for someone none the less.

I read today that RV stocks are going up as manufacturers are saying they do not see sales dropping after the pandemic. I am not so sure about that but its a problem for buyers when they have huge demand the price goes up and unfortunately the quality suffers

The camper i have had my eyes on is anywhere from 6 to 10 grand more than before the pandemic...i kick myself every day for not pulling the trigger a year and half ago.
Im gonna wait it out...im glad i have something for the time being...i wouldnt want to be a buyer now looking for a 1st camper or any camper for that matter.

I want to buy new but thank you for the tip.
I bought my pop up new in 19
So i am in no rush as mine is barely broken in.
I know eventually i want a TT.
You snooze you lose...and i lost.
At least i can camp till hopefully prices come back to somewhat normal hopefully

When I was out shopping for a TT, I noticed the lack of units for sale and higher prices. In addition, many dealerships offered new units still being built by the manufacturers. They are advertising new units which are still on ordered or to be ordered. And used units are going at a fast rate. I was lucky to find an almost new TT. It was only used for one camping season. The price was 4K higher than last year. But I negotiated a lower price than what was being asked. And it came with extras (Camco Curved leveler, chocks, TriLynx leveling blocks, CAMCO sewer hose, TriLynx Chock for Power Jack, command hooks, throw pillows, 25ft RV extension cord, 30 amp power adapter, and a 15 gallon honey bucket) supplied by the previous owner. But I still consider those extras as part of the price paid in today’s market.
