I replaced the electric lift! I bought a carefree lift and it bolted right on. I had to replace one of the cables as the old one was so frayed that I could not get it in the hole in the spool of the winch. It works so great!

And the best part? Now I have a manual backup if the lift fails. That bolt was broken off before!

This may not be much for some, but i am so pleased with myself!

That is great and quiet the accomplishment. It is nice to know that you have a new, working lift that should be worry free, but if there is an issue, you will know how it works and be able to trouble shoot it.

I was so nervous about doing it, but it really was not that hard. I knew if I did not fix it I could not afford to have a shop do it and that meant the end of camping for the year. That was not acceptable!

Nothing feels better that doing a job and everything works out perfectly as you hoped. You did a great job and now can relax and either go camping or on to the next project. Good Luck and happy camping

    Hi there,
I'm looking at replacing our broken winch with one of these. I'm not sure if it will work for our set up. We have a 1991 Starcraft Starflyer and a rear winch with four cables going into it. Do you know if the Carefree winches are universal? Or where to find out what systems they fit?

    Thanks so much,
    Lori

I dont know anything about changing a manual lift to an electric. I did find some you tube videos on it, sorry. From what I saw some modification was always necessary

    LOVE YouTube!
Especially when I'm doing something I've never done before.
Great Job on installing your power lift!
I love working with my hands and doing stuff like that!

Good on you! Most people nowadays seem scared of trying anything mechanical. Even the experienced people had to start somewhere, now, you not only know how do the repair, you'll have the confidence to try most upcoming repairs, & you may be able to pass your newfound knowledge to someone else getting started.

Agreed, as long as it works and you can go camping. I probably spent more on stupid crap for the camper, just hurts all at once!
