I had grand designs for buying an 81 columbia and modding it up. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a boondoggle. I asked all the right questions and drove all the way from Denver to South Dakota only to find that the seller had been... I'll be kind and say "bending the truth". The thing was scrap. 15 hours round trip and a night of extremely uncomfortable tent camping with nothing to show for it! Fortunately, the universe seeks balance. I found the genuine article right here in the Denver area the very next day. 1987 Coleman Sequoia with absolutely every bell and whistle you could order, all working. One owner. It has spent all but the first four years of its life in a climate-controlled garage (the decals aren't even faded). The thing looks like someone mothballed a showroom model. Even the 32 year old original canvas is IMMACULATE! The owners were super sweet and toured me through each and every tiny ding or scratch on the thing (it was a short tour) and their asking price was extremely generous. I did not haggle. This thing is coming home! My only problem now is that the thing is just too perfect to mod! I think I'm going to change all the bulbs to LED, add the hardware necessary for solar charging and enjoy the hell out of it just the way it is! I feel like I won the camper lottery! Very nice find, congrats! What is the thing hanging over the sink? Looks like a mirror and place for toiletries?
First thing I would do is check the age of tires and spare. If the hubs run cool, and the exterior lights work, you're good to go.
Previous owner has documented years of service. Most recent new tires 2 years ago, bearings replaced at the same time. Very few miles since. I'll definitely repack them myself when I get it home, but it should get home no prob. Tires will have a few seasons left in them!
Ha! That's awesome. I have a little mirror with a suction cup but that one looks way better with the extra storage.
very nice! And how awesome that the Pop Ups gods rewarded you! We just got a 1989 Sequoia this weekend. Interior is exactly same except for burgandy curtains. And the cooler and vanity are missing. So bummed because I would have loved that vanity board. Ours is in great shape inside but I am replacing the curtains and cushion covers. Cabinets and flooring, though not in today's style, are in near perfect shape so we won't be messing with them anytime soon. Our exterior is a bit rough. That's where we are keeping an eye on things. No water damage or leaks that we can see but I'm nervous about first rainy camp day just the same.
We have one of those. Came with our 2004 Starcraft. It has never been used and I doubt we ever will. It is somewhere in the garage or basement. If anybody wants it please PM me. You only pay shipping.
There's a chance I might be willing to part with it for a modest sum. This thing has so many doo-dads and options that I never really envisioned having, and I'm toying with the idea of selling some of the more collectible options (the vanity, the retro icebox, possibly the sink and plumbing, etc.) in order to support the cost of my planned upgrades. For now, we're going to camp with it "as is" a few times, try out all of the toys, and then decide which ones we can and can't live without.
