We stayed here overnite coming back from Michigan. Very nice park with good size sites. The Camp Store was unbelievable! If you wanted it, they had it. It was the best store I have seen yet. Lots of nice hiking trails, we hiked the trail to the beach. The beach was nice also. We didn't have a lot of time to spend, but we will try to get there again.

If I remember correctly, that's one of the dozen or so state parks that my wife and I are planning on trying to visit in the next few years with the kids. Thanks for the nice recommendation!

Going there in a couple weeks for Halloween. We took the Grand-kids for the trick-or-treating after being invited by a co-worker last year. It was a Hoot!

P.S. I had the reservations made before I found PUP and discovered the Midwest Rally was at Pokagon the same weekend. [:!]

I live about 25 miles away from there. I went years ago but my impression wasn't great.

The DNR officer was extremely rude to us in the campground- first and last time that has ever happened.

We found the hiking to be pretty mediocre- nothing unusual or particularly interesting, and we always wanted to be closer to the lakeshores.

We also canoed the entire chain and that was pretty cool.

Maybe I should check it out again, it's close and convenient and the officer was probably just having a bad day.

I just got back from a week at Chain o' Lakes. I've been going here practically since birth and its always a good time. Everything was clean and well cared for as usual.

My one disappointment is that the two main channel entrances you use to canoe to the other major lakes are not passable. One is nearly dry, and the other is blocked by a fallen tree. Its been this way since my last trip 2 years ago.. 90% of the reason I enjoy this park so much is the canoeing adventures to be had. Now you're pretty much stuck to one lake. Sad because I think 7 or 8 of the 13 lakes are interconnected by channels which are not passable. I hiked the other lakes and the rest of the channels are largely clear. Seems like it would be pretty simple for the DNR to do a bit of maintenance and clear obstructions. I hope they do cause this park has a special place in my heart and it would be a shame to not be able to enjoy it fully again.

I've been here once every year for a few years. usually just an overnight. I like it pretty well, as I bring my kayak. Only thing I don't like is that some of the showers are on a timer, like a minute timer. I'm not trying to day spa it at the state park or anything, but c'mon... Having said that they've most always been clean(ish). Cant say that for other state parks I've been to Indiana.
