RATS!

I ignored this thread because I thought it was about using a portable A/C in a popup. I have a roof unit, so I skipped right over it.

I live in an old house with skinny casement windows, so I can't find a window unit that works. For $139, I would have bought 3 or 4 of them!

RATS RATS RATS RATS RATS RATS RATS RATS RATS!

I'm sorry Joe, for that price, I really should have posted it in general camping too and the title should have been "$139 portable air conditioner" It would have been more noticeable and more people would have seen it.

The vertical A/C's I've seen at Wal-mart are over $300. Dangit

Unfortunately, the way my windows are, I can't even use one of those vertical casement units without removing the entire window. Oh well.

    My first post! Yay!

Just bought my N2U pop up yesterday and we pick it up Tuesday.

Many fellow camper owners admonished me because this particular PUP didn't have A/C.

Saw this post, followed the link and lucked out that my Circuit City (Greenwood, IN store) had it in stock.

I didn't get it for the $139, but I did pick it up for $169.00.

Thanks for the tip! Now, I'm golden!

P.S. And thanks, too, for all the other tips that I've already printed out!

I'd love to know if the pricing analysts at CC scrutinize all their products with the same diligence as they do for these AC units!

End of summer, price goes down.... Hurricane threat, price goes up....Hurricane over, price goes down again.

If grocery stores operated like that, none of us could ever maintain a budget -- unless we shopped at 3 o'clock in the morning!

Jeni, welcome to the portal! In my webshots I've got pics of my portable install... maybe you could get some ideas on your install from those. Others here have done portables too and for the most part they work out great. Let us know when you get your pup how the install goes... and again... welcome!

Wow! Thanks for the very warm welcome(s)!

Thanks for the pics, Tekboy46. I will share them with hubby who is pretty handy!

I've spent three full days shopping for this little baby. I was insistent that everything match and be color coordinated. (But I also did it by spending the time browsing clearance sales!)

I pick it up tomorrow, I'm sooooo excited.

If I'm smart enough to figure out how to enclose a photo, I will show the photo I took at the dealer. (Maybe I should move it over to the Introduce Yourself forum! LOL)

Jeni, I'm so excited for you! When we first got our New to Us pup, we were so excited--fixing it up, decorating etc. You are going to have a ball! Let us know if any of us can help with anything and feel free to browse folks' photo albums by clicking the little purple camera under our names.

Welcome again and be sure to post pics so we can ooh and ahh with you!

    Thanks, Cindy F!

I will (eventually) get photos uploaded to somewhere to link here. There wasn't too much that I needed to do the PUP. It was in excellent condition. I just added the frills and comforts of home. (That shopping was FUN!)

We picked it up yesterday, packed it today and it's now resting (comfortably) in the garage. It's maiden voyage will be this coming weekend. We're camping reasonably close to home with well-experienced-camping friends. (In case we have questions.)

It'll be really cool to compare it to the tent camping that we're accustomed to.

Ironically, I don't think we're taking the A/C. I don't think we're going to need it. But, I'll sure love that A/C next summer!

I am looking for some things for next summer to use in our new to us pup! I was wondering if those of you who bought this 8,000 BTU portable a/c unit were happy with it. Was it enough power? The roof mounted ones are typically over 13,000 BTU's if I remember correctly. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2 year old Haier 7,000 BTU auto evaporation unit that you don't have to dump any water out of for $100 , new are about $300, or a 2 year old Continental Electrics (never heard of this brand, bought at Menards)12,000 BTU that I have to dump out everyday for $250, originally $475.

    What are your thoughts?
