My SO and I just bought our first pop-up: a 2010 Viking Epic 1706. At 8 feet, it's small, but there's just the two of us, and more importantly, I didn't want to buy a new towing vehicle, just yet. I reasoned, on the advice of a UK camper website, that if the engine size, horsepower, and torque of our 2013 VW CC are all similar to most of the SUVs and minivans out there, the CC should be able to handle the tow. So far, so good....

Although the pop-up is new to us, I camped quite a bit with my family when I was a kid, so camping isn't new to me. (Of course, then, although I helped, it was mostly our parents who were responsible for organizing the trips, and for the setup and take-down.) My SO, also camped a bit when she was younger, but neither of us had camped in well over 30 years! Imagine my surprise to find that camping now requires reservations! Who knew?!

We took our pop-up to a nearby provincial park for our first outing, just in case we ran into any difficulties or we had forgotten something. Sure enough, likely because of the heatwave, we had forgotten to bring our sleeping bags. We shivered through that first night, then promptly returned home to retrieve them and a couple of other things we'd forgotten. Despite that, it was a good first outing. The site was perfectly level, partially shaded, and private. It was a short walk to the toilets and to the water spout, and we enjoyed our time in the outdoors.

We're now planning our next camping trip, this time farther afield, and planning for next year.

Just an fyi.. if you live in North America stats from a European forum are useless as they have very different regulations and laws..

Thanks for the welcome, Snow! Thanks also for the fyi. Just to clarify, I wasn't using the stats from the UK. I adopted their idea to compare TVs based on horsepower, torque, etc.. As the author of that post stated, car manufacturers and their dealers will "not recommend" less expensive sedans, etc. as TVs because they want us to buy their more expensive SUVs, etc. to tow trailers. When I checked VW, they recommended their Tiguan SUV for towing, but not the CC (my TV); yet, the horsepower, torque, etc. are nearly identical. Even more interesting, they recommended the Passat, which is the same car as the CC!
