Military ID is required since the campground is on JEB Ft. Story base.

Ft. Story has 24 campsites and 3 camping cabins. Water and Electric hookup is available at all sites. There is a dump station available. Ft Story has one and two bedroom cabins available also.

The campground roads are packed, but not paved, and currently have quite a few potholes at the entrance. The campground is wooded and quiet. I heard someone describe it as rustic and the thought has stuck.

Having said it's quiet, be prepared for reveille at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays, Colors at 8:00 a.m. (daily), and retreat at 5:00 p.m. At random times there's a test of the emergency broadcast public address system.

There is a bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets. They are cleaned daily. At the back of the bathhouse is a free laundry with two washers and two dryers.

Gate 8 is the closest gate. There is an on-site gas station and mini NEX with basic camping and beach supplies. It's just past the Cape Henry lighthouses, about 1/2 mile further down Atlantic Ave. Access to the beach is across from the gas station. Parking is available.

We drove by JEB Little Creek campground and the campground at First Landing State Park. Both of those back to Shore Dr. (Route 60). They looked packed and noisy. We're glad we stayed at Ft. Story. It seemed the best suited for a popup or tent.
