Excited about road tripping from IL to FL for a late spring break trip. Campground is right on the beach - Henderson Beach State Park. Hopefully the anticipation will help me survive another Chicago winter [emoji12]

Destin is a great place to camp, shop and just hang out. Just a little ways south is a restaurant named the Donut Hole and it is a great place to eat and just down the road from there is the campground called Topsail. Check it out while there, its one of the nicest campgrounds around.

We are booked there at the end of March / early April for 7 nights. It will be our first time there also.
looks like plenty there to keep us busy.

That place looks pretty nice. In the photo gallery on their website, they have a pic of a PUP in a site!

We went to Destin this summer for vacation. Stayed at the military campground run by the air force. We had a great time and enjoyed the beach. Lots to do and the prices were reasonable.

Does the military campground have a name? Being ex-Air Force that might be cool / cheap (need to dig up my old DD214)
It appears "Topsail" may be Gregory E. Moore RV resort and "Destin" is either Henderson Beach State Park or Camp Gulf...
But then there's Destin West RV Resort at Fort Walton Beach

    Hoosier,

Sorry, my mistake, run by the Army, Ft. Benning to be exact. Here is the link www.benningmwr.com/destin-resort/. It was nice but it wasn't the best campground I've ever been to; but it was really cheap and there is a private beach for military just a few miles down the road. I would not think twice about going there again.

The AFB is Eglin in Fort Walton Beach, and it is about 15 miles from Henderson Beach State Park. Henderson Beach is one of our favorite CGs and is a secluded SP hidden between the main drag through Destin and the sugar sand dunes and beaches of the Gulf. Gorgeous CG with clean bathhouses and a scenic short walk on a broad cement walkway to the boardwalk over the dunes to the wide beach. When we've visited, the beach was rarely populated. It's great to get some fresh seafood at the vendors along the road and then go back to the camper to cook a luscious lunch and dinner.

We drove through Topsail and the RV Resort type CG closer to Panama City Beach. Not impressed. Henderson Beach SP is about 1/2 way between Pensacola to the west and PCB to the east. Easy drive to both.
