Ready to use this bad boy on my trip in a couple weeks. Ive tested the mp3 feature on the lamp and its super loud and clear. The light has 2 settings and the FM radio has an auto scan feature. Im ready to test it in the wilderness and I'll have some pics to add to this thread. Thanks for looking!

Chief, I was surprised that it wasn't full of fuel because even w/o the batteries it was heavy for a plastic lantern!!!! Im ready to test it at the CG!

Yeah 6 D batteries will add a little heft to it, lol. You could also use it as a boat anchor... [:D]

Neat. We have a couple of 4-D-cell fluorescent lanterns, not too dissimilar from that one. No music though.

I was thinking of getting this:
8 pcs of Tenergy D Size 10 000 mAh high capacity high rate NiMH Rechargeable batteries
    and this:
    Ansmann Energy 8 Charger

Alkaline D-cells are usually around 12000 mAh, so these are very comparable. We'd never have to worry about running out of battery power for the lanterns as long as we had some sort of electric. I figure if you charge them about 8 times, they've paid for both the batteries and charger vs. Alkaline.

twst, you've put a lot more thought in to it than I have. I'm anxious to see how the batteries do with playing music from iPod and providing light. Ill have a full report for everyone after I get back

Just an update on the lantern. Ive still not replaced the D cell batteries and its been over a year now. Ive used it on several trips and lots of outings in the yard. I highly recommend it.
