Hey everyone☺ just joined the group today. We recently purchases our 1st pup and need some ideas where to take it. We have 2 kids age 3yrs and 4 mos. Looking for places to camp in NC or VA. Hopefully that have hook ups and some sort of water , maybe a river or a lake, even a creek to splash in would work. And maybe a playground for the bigger kid. Any ideas? O! And nice shady spots would be a bonus. Are my hopes too high?
We stayed at Jellystone Gloucester Point During Spring Break and our grandkids loved it (even the 16 yo had fun). Not all sites have grills, but they all have a fire ring. Our site didn't have a grill, but I bought a grate (available at the camp store) that fits the fire ring perfectly. It's also a short drive to many other attractions.
Perhaps you should state what area in VA / NC you are interested in. There are many CG's in both states. Be more specific of what you are asking.
Always see lots of kids having fun at the Westmoreland State Park near Montross, Virginia with a nice beach area along the Potomac River. Campers have free access to the large swimming pool facility... Lots of great hiking trails and always deer coming around at dusk... Lots of tree coverage all over Westmoreland... https://www.yelp.com/biz/westmoreland-state-park-montross-2 https://www.reserveamerica.com/camp...roundDetails.do?contractCode=VA&parkId=140185 We always use the B-CAMP site and kids love their bicycles in the late afternoon to just after it gets dark. The B-camp has a couple of safe trails for the Bicycles and the kids love to run up and down the small hills along the trail around B-Camp with their bike lights ON... You can look out to where the Bike trail is and can see the lights coming and going and kids laughing and having a great time... We all know the kids are very much in love with their very own and always handy flashlights when camping... We are only 25 miles away from Westmoreland so this is our home camp site where I get to check out my never ending mods to the OFF-ROAD Popup... Roy Ken
You can try Natural Bridge KOA in Virginia it's been a very long time since I've gone there so don't know if things changed for the worst but I remember having a lot of fun there and seeing how nature can form the land was really awesome. Westmoreland State Park may be kind of fun for the kids. Unfortunately it is a walk to the playground and a drive to the pool and beach. There are a few activities for the kids although probably not really suitable for ones so young. Bathrooms could really use more stalls and showers.
If you're looking to get close to the coast, we stayed at Tall Pines Harbor in Temperanceville, VA last year - about a 30 minute drive from Chincoteague.....good sized pool, splash pad for kids with plans to add a water slide, nice grounds, swimming beach and pier for crabbing etc.....
Just returned from Walnut Hills in Staunton, VA. Thought it was rather nice and checks all of your requirements. http://www.walnuthillscampground.com/
We just went to Jordan Lake state park crosswinds campground and will definitely be going back. Loved it. Also did Sycamore Lodge in Jackson Springs, NC That was VERY nice. And family oriented as well.
