My husband and I were not pleased with this campsite at all!

    The boat landing was GREAT!

The playground area included water and slides. The kids seemed to be having a good time.

The area was new and clean

There were only 4 campsites that were shady, and they weren't shady enough. Those 4 sites did not have enough room for the pop-up and the truck to fit, you would have to park on the side of the road.

The slot we stayed in was like a parking lot. No trees, no nature. Basically, they cleared a field and put some concrete down for the campsites.

I have pictures (very few of them) for your review.

I will not revisit Poverty Point.

We haven't been to Claiborne yet ... but we plan to camp at every campsite in LA before it's over. Thanks for sharing. I like it when people comment on the parks .. you ought to write one about Claiborne and Millwood. I have found them very helpful when selecting where to go.)

Can you tell me if any of the state parks in LA are decent in or around New Orleans? I wondered if they were destroyed from the hurricane.

Great! My mom has some friends in Grand Isle. I would love to see the bayou. Let me know if its decent. I was looking at the LA state parks website and some of the state parks campgrounds are closed due to hurricane damage.
I dont want to get to far from New Orleans b/c I want to eat some of that yummy N.O. food!!

    Hi Louisiana ........... Oldtimer here

Yes, On my June trip to Mississippi, I went by Lake Claiborne State park and checked it out. It seemed nice enough, with lots of shade. Most sites were empty except for the few waterfront ones. Seemed to be Longtime RVers in their motorhomes and TTs had taken all those. Still, would be a nice get-away park. The lake was big and probably quite a few Alligators in that water. Not a real good view of the lake for all the trees tho. Can see just enough water to know its there.

I would go for a stay if its close. But my favorites are in Southeastern Oklahoma, if I'm driving any distance, will probably go up there.

Try Lake Bruin State Park. The original 25 or so sites are very shaded and accomidations are wonderful. We are only a hour and a half from there and go there a lot. Never had a bad experince. The new sites are mostly in open land with little shade, however they do have nice sites all paved with table and grills at each one. Elec and water is also at each site. It fills up real fast in the spring due to the great fishing there.

    Happy Camping!
