I talked again today with the buyer of our PUP and he now plans to be here Friday afternoon.

When we were talking he asked if I'm a coffee drinker -- I am -- and he said he wants to bring me a bag of "Louisiana coffee." I'm guessing it's a regional blend? Anyone familiar with it?

It may be Community Coffee or one of the New Orleans chicory blends.

I believe it is called chickery (spelling ?). It is a very strong coffee. My Mother being a cajun has drank chickery for awhile. I myself don't like.......I'm more of a folgers in my cup kinda guy!

BTW..I recieved the propane tank cover yesterday....perfect fit...thanks again John!

After reading all the posts here, campers and outdoor people have got to be the friendliest people on the planet. They buy a PUP from you, sight unseen, drive all that way, actually like it and drive back to Louisiana, and now they are headed all that way back (probably like the northeastern parks better) and is dropping by to give you some coffee. You can't get better friends than that. Camper and Kayakers make the best friends!!!!!

My grandfather, the WWII Guadalcanal Marine vet, has told me stories about driving through Louisiana and wanting a simple cup of coffee. I believe his direct quote was something like, "We don't make coffee to suit you. We make coffee to suit ourselves."

So I guess he had some chickory in his coffee. . .

He might be bringing you Community Coffee. Community and Folgers are a lot alike. Community is just a little stronger.

However, if he is from SOUTH Louisiana, you can expect some chicory in your beans.

    Hope you like it.

Cafe du Monde coffee is the best. You need to be able to really handle a strong one. Make it a cafe au lait, sit back and smile. I mail order it all the time. Spoiled by one visit to New Orleans.

Look for French Market and Luziane at your local grocer. I keep some around and enjoy it when I drink it.

Yes, the folks who bought our Coleman brought me a pound of Community Coffee, a bottle of Tiger Sauce and another, hotter sauce. The hotter sauce went home with DS and his wife!

I just opened the Community Coffee this morning. It's very good but I do have to adjust the amount I'm used to putting in the coffeemaker. I didn't use quite enough. I'm sure tomorrow's pot will be much better!

    POPUPMOM....

    CDM!! rules.. (cafe du monde).

I moved to Vegas about 5 years ago after the Hurricane--- hadn't thought about it until reading your post just now! lots of memories with that. Chicory is not for everyone for sure---- an acquired taste but once it gets into your blood you love it.

    The darker the better!

Meijer stores carries cafe du monde coffee up here. No need to get it by mail here. Strange thing is that they have it in the international foods isle with the french food.

My neighbors 20 yrs ago used to drink Luzianne brand coffee and it had chickory in it - was rather strong. Haven't seen it the MD/VA grocery stores in several years but can remember A & P carrying it. If it is the same as what you receive and you like it, they have a website.

I love a good cup of coffee with chicory in it, but it may be a bit strong for some. It mellows beautifully if you add 1/4 to 1/2 volume of hot milk (cafe au lait)... milk solves a multitude of coffee sins! :D

Ya'll ever heard how chicory came to be added to coffee in New Orleans?

Seems that coffee was scarce during the Civil War. Chicory (cheap and available) was added to "stretch" the supply of pure coffee. Seems that the New Orleaneans decided that they liked the flavor so the practice stuck with them.

At least that's the story that I've always heard locally.

I personally don't care for the chicory flavor, but like coffee in general it's probably an acquired taste.

I've heard a similar story as Cool Dad only it was WWII that the chicory was added to coffee. I happen to like it. My mom (who had to drink it in WWII times) hated it!
