    Just got back from Wells SP this weekend. It was great. No hook ups but very nice clean sites (some right on the lake), a great beach area (very clean & actually sandy), fishing, boating, lots of hiking. What we all loved about this place was how clean, quiet, and very peaceful it was (it was sold out this weekend too). If you are looking for a "get back to nature" trip this is the place. Mostly tents and PUPs, with a hand full of hard sided campers. Restrooms very clean with hot showers as well. Staff very friendly & attentive.

    Looks nice, and not to far away. Anyplace I can go canoeing and hiking for cheap is a plus.

    I know this is an old thread, but this is right over the border for me, probably half an hour. I saw it on massparks.org, and it looked nice.

    Thanks for the lowdown, 4kids!

    This is definitely a frontrunner (so is Walker Island, Mercman, per your review and pictures!)

    So funny this thread is brought back up, we're reserved May 9-11 here, site #17, only one available on the water side for that weekend. I'm up for a rally here for sure, its only about 30 mins from me!

    Great place. The water sites were really nice. This would be a great place to go early/late season.

    I really liked this state park - great hiking trails, nice little beach, very quiet & clean, big wooded sites. I am looking forward to returning this summer.

    UPDATE, The GF and I took a drive out to Wells State Park tonight. Not many good pictures, because it was getting dark and without the flash its very blurry.(Someone has to show me how to use this camera better, lol). VERY nice place, some sites are smaller than others, and some are closer to the road than others. FWIW, Sites #19, and 20A are still available the weekend we'll be there. Site 19 is on the water SIDE, but has a hill down to the water. Beautiful views though, let me tell you! Pics I took today are shown
    here, please excuse the blurry and poor ones, it was all we had time for before it was dark! I did, however get this shot of the lake and moon before it was too dark!

    Kevin - My son and I may join you that weekend.

    I don't think the whole family will go, but I think the boys can sneak away. We're leaving to go on vacation later in the week, so I'll slant it as it'll get the pesky boys out of my wife's hair for a few days so she can pack!

    I'll let you know....oh, and a PM coming your way....

    No problem, whoever can make it, if they aren't able to get a site on the water side, by all means we can enjoy the view from Site #17. Not as close to the water as I'd pictured, but a nice spot that I should be able to make pretty private, with the use of the PUP and TV! <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Big Smile">

    Be sure to check out the hiking trails while you are there. They circle around that beautiful lake.

    Just wanted to post an update here. We are headed to Wells State Park this coming weekend, but I wanted to get a better look at the sites available there, before the weekend came and they were all filled. What a NICE place, IMO! I found some nice spots out in the woods, away from the water, that are so large and spacious its awesome!

    Here's where we'll be staying this weekend:
    <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/kmh1596/Misc%20Pics/2004%20Rockwood/Wells%20State%20Park%20Sturbridge%20MA/Wells17-1.jpg" border=0>
    <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/kmh1596/Misc%20Pics/2004%20Rockwood/Wells%20State%20Park%20Sturbridge%20MA/Wells17-3.jpg" border=0>

    And here are a few of the off water sites, which were often times HUGE!

    <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/kmh1596/Misc%20Pics/2004%20Rockwood/Wells%20State%20Park%20Sturbridge%20MA/Wells37-2.jpg" border=0>
    <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/kmh1596/Misc%20Pics/2004%20Rockwood/Wells%20State%20Park%20Sturbridge%20MA/Wells37-1.jpg" border=0>

    I had considered this park for a brief period of time thinking it would be good for a PUP rally. Some of the sites are so far away from eachother, that it'd be like there wasn't a rally! Not often you have the problem of having the sites TOO FAR apart! <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Big Smile">

    We're going to be in 17 this weekend, which are the first 3 pics in my above post, but if available, and you want a water site, try and get one of the others, as 17 is a bit tight. If you can't, its not a <i>bad</i> site by any means, just a bit small. There are quite a few good sites there. Check them all out <b>here</b> and let me know when you'll be up there! <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Big Smile">

    Also, if you do go to reserve a site, let me know if you have any questions, because in addition to the pics, I took notes on some of them, such as not level, or close to the brook, etc.etc..

    Kevin,

    That would be a good spot for a pup rally. You'll always have one site where everyone will meet anyhow. It looks like a really nice park. Just make sure you pick a spot that you can set a pup in and a bunch of ez ups.
    It's also a more central location for a NE pup rally.

    Thats ok, we're up there this weekend, then we camp in VT on the weekend of the 23rd. Liz graduates next weekend, so we wouldn't be able to for a few weeks yet anyways. Thing about Wells is that the spots are so large in some areas, that you'd have to walk a bit to your neighbor. However, there are a few spots close enough to eachother, or sharing the same driveway, that it'd be a nice getaway with friendly neighbors!

    On a side note, I stopped at a house on the road leading to the State Park, who had their pup open and the HWH compartment open, was working on something. Her husband had run to the store, but I stopped and gave her a PUP card, told her to check it out. They always see the "referred by" spot on the back and think that its some pyramid scheme. I just told her "Nothing is bought or sold, its just an awesome forum with great people, check it out!"

    Kevin...

    I'm With Lou defiantly looks like a rally worthy park. If the timing is right I’ll come up for it.
