LOL.. Sounds good all! This place has a lot of off level sites, but as long as have the leveling equipment we're good. We need to test out site #37, as its one of the favorites out of the whole park, but it has a tiny brook running along side it, and a rock wall as well. It seemed buggy, due to the moisture nearby. IT would however definitely house some EZups, as well as quite a few people!

We'll do some more research this weekend, and I'll see where it looks like we can get a big group of sites together. Do we figure late August, say ~Aug 22st-Aug 24th? (~21st-25th for those who can make the long weekend) Also, just a note for those that don't know, Sturbridge Village is nearby, as well as Brimfield, MA. One of the biggest Antique fairs in the country as far as I know, lasting most of the summer, could make good day trips for those interested. For this park we'd have to have a schedule of events and where they'd be happening, as we wouldn't be necessarily close enough to walk 20ft over to out neighbors site.
Steve, which site would you like? Note: I'll start another thread soon, once we firm up this will be the place!

Kevin, if I recall correctly there is a site at Wells that has a big open space to the left of it and an island-type of grassy area in front of it. That would be perfect for gatherings, if someone like oh our rally leader, would like to reserve it. ;) I'll have to ask dh/Fourkids, he'll know the site #.

Lou, I figured we'd try and do the loop off to the back, with sites #26-52, to try and stay together, rather than make an effort for a waterfront site? At least the ones in 26-52 are somewhatclose to eachother...
As for the site with the big open space queen bee, I think you're talking about site #7:

Alerts and Important Information
Site

Across the street from playfield

Site # 37 as shown above is quite the large site, and would have ample room for EZups, etc... Im wondering if down by the bottom Site #7, if we'd run into more issues with the rangers as far as noise and/or drinking?

I agree on how nice Wells State Park is, I just worry about folks having to walk too far to the gatherings, that some would opt to stick it out on their own? Its actually far enough away they'd need to drive to and from some sites.. As of now, there are 14-15 sites available in the 26-52 section, all relatively close to eachother.
I also just noticed something interesting to keep in mind, sites #48 and #49 are noted as "Management Sites". Considering our proximity to them, would we be asking for trouble to drink and be loud near them? It may be that those sites aren't used, and are only if the management decides to use them, but if not, we'd be right across from them discussing the antics we call PUP, in the wee hours of the night.

See their proximity to that area here:

Note that a lot of the roads between these sites and some leading to the sites are gravel and/or dirt... My Grand Prix had a few spots it didn't like me lol, but thats what I drove there, instead of the gas hungry Jeep..

I'm already excited about the future rally, and the first one is just finished! Is this wrong?

Kevin,

Sounds like you've already picked a place and laid the groundwork. Cool.

Is the weekend before Labor Day going to cause problems for some people? Just a thought.

Kevin/Dana -

When you mention the weekend before Labor day, Keep in Mind that this years Labor Day weekend actually begins Friday August 29. Sept 1st is Labor day this year. so where you thinking August 23-24?.
Might sound anal but I've already had this problem at work where people have already assumed that the first weekend in Sept. is Labor day weekend. (Guess they took the wrong 3-day weekend off)

Yeah I was thinking Aug 16-17, or 23-24th. The 23rd and 24th actually have more availability, but I just want to get a consensus from more people on whether or not they'd mind walking a few minutes to whatever site we use as the common site. The launch for the canoes are by the front gate, so it would need to be driven down there, but there's parking right there.

In the loop I posted above, (26-52), the availability is still pretty good, just a thought of the management sites being right there on 48 and 49. I'll know this weekend how strict and vigilant that are in patrolling, I just wouldn't want us to run into trouble.

If no one has a problem with walking say 3 or 4 minutes if they are the end site, then I'd say this will be a nice place for a rally. We'll be there this weekend, anyone need more pics to help with the decision? We will likely do the couple days before, and possibly few days after the weekend.

Update: Aug 9-10 will also be ok, availability in that loop is the same that weekend. Whats the concensus? If we do decide on that park, and that loop, we're just about alone as of right now, except for those pesky management sites in 48 and 49.

Kevin - Either of those weekends should work for us.

As far as location goes, if space is already an concern, should we consider elsewhere? You say there are 14-15 sites available close to each other, but we just had 18 @ Burlingame. I would imagine that we might have just as a big a group, if not bigger.

I'm not saying we need to be on top of each other, but like you said, if you wanted to keep it a group feel, I would think we'd want to try to keep everyone close.

Sorry, just trying to play devil's advocate here! Either way, we'd be in...I'll just reserve early!

We'll know better after this weekend, we may even have some disguised beverages and see if we get hassled.. Solely for research purposes!
Don, I actually think it will be less of a turnout, only because of everyone's busy summer schedule. Not to say I don't WANT more to be there, I just think realistically, we may not have as big of a group because of it... I'm not concerned as much with reservation room, as I think the 14 will be sufficient, and most have said the space between the sites doesn't bother them. I'll report back Sunday when we return..

I don't know that there is a playground, but there is a swimming beach in the park, as well as much hiking and biking, aside from the canoeing/kayaking.

Kevin, you know I thought about how it might be smaller due to the summer after I posted that. But you got to it before I could edit....good on you, quick draw mcgraw!

Even if we do have the same number or bigger, it won't be that bad. I say a new thread needs to be started by Mr. Wagonmaster!! Good work, Kevin!
