Truth. Although I think my side kick only asked for s'mores so she can watch it burn and eat the rest of the marshmallow raw.

For extra flame use Reese’s. Yummy!

I've been a secret s'more hater for years, but no longer! The whole concept is mediocre with specialized gear, but your standard stick and fire apparatus makes sad, dry messes that befoul many a camp chair.

The flavor combo is spot on, but the construction is just not right. Once we empty nest camped, we tried 85% cacao bars with those flat, square marshmallows. Slightly better taste, but still fundamentally flawed construction that cut up the roof of my mouth and made me want a quart of milk on the side.

So, I no longer make s'mores, but I do not begrudge anyone their enjoyment of them! I'm working on an idea of a chocolate fondue where things are dipped by the campfire, but likely doesn't address the mess of molten chocolate and marshmallow squishing all over the place. But the crackers need to be dipped in something... rum works.

We like to experiment with marshmallows with a chocolate center- the chocolate melts much better.
Also using the Easter favorite, Peeps as the marshmallow is an avant-garde choice. The sugar coated covering of the Peep’ sort of caramelizes as it heats.
Get a can of wet wipes for your hands and live a little.

I've never cared for s'mores myself. I prefer to roast the marshmallow till its black on all sides and eat it by itself. I like hotdogs the same way. When our grandkids are at the campsite middle daughter -- the granola girl -- is in charge of s'more making.

no thoughts on "construction" but, a few years ago, our son's girlfriend turned us on to using Reese's Peanut Butter Cups instead of the Chocolate Bars

    MOST EXCELLENT!!!... never turned back

    Happy Trails!

My son’s pediatrician turned us on to these. Burrito shells wrapped up in foil with peanut butter, chocolate chips and mini marshmallows. You could add anything else you like, some strawberries or banana work. Sit it near the coals and let it get all warm and toasty. We like them better, but can only eat one! Yum!!!

You and my husband both. He does like to put his marshmallow over the fire but everything is eaten separately.

. I never heard about using burrito shells but did use ice cream cones filled with the same ingredients. Like the burrito idea better as I use those for sandwiches more then I do bread. So nothing extra to bring. Thanks for sharing. I may do that from now on.

I bought some pie irons this year and haven't used them yet. Did you put foil over the pie iron, like I've seen some do? Lots of butter sounds good, I would think that would help them not stick. I want to try all sorts of recipes in them. I might practice at home over our propane fire pit this winter!

I just used butter, and dont get it too hot for the smores. Pie itons are fun. But take sone getting used to so you dont burn the food.
