With the upcoming Memorial Weekend, 1st let us remember those who served and their families for those who gave their full resolve for our country.

For me Memorial day is the official start of camping season, (even though I started in early April). Lets celebrate the holiday weekend with camping pics... Take pics this weekend and post em. Tell us what went right, and what went wrong...

When me and the wife used to work for a living we always camped on Memorial Day weekend. Some of our worst experiences were then. It always seemed like the worst of the bunch camped right next to us! All night parting complete with musical instruments. The campground security would never come around during the later hours. So now we camp middle of the week during non holliday times.:)

What Joe said above^^^I'll spend the weekend visiting the internments of pals that didn't make it home, & 2 that did make it back physically that I served with, but never could come to grips...we did spend a few days as "cabineers" last week at a state park w/ our son, an Afghani-land vet, here's a few pics...

Back as a tent camper I camped during memorial day and let me tell you NEVER again. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. They just couldn't keep up with the huge crowd that came. There were drunks all over the lake it would be absolutely dangerous to even want to kayak on the water. Campground was overrun by rude inconsiderate people everywhere , ALL rules were broken. Poor rangers and camp hosts couldn't keep up. I Spent more time telling people to stop cutting through my site causing my dogs to go bonkers. Took a hike to get away from the crowd to only meet them on the trail. I go camping to get away from the city. Didn't expect to see the city at camp. Then hit so much traffic getting home you would have thought I was back home then out in the middle of nowhere. No pictures because who wants pictures of drunks vomiting on the beach. However it was a riot watching all these drunks trying to climb on jet skies and the boat ramp with all these newbees attempting to put their boats in the water. So there was a little highlight to the trip.

At this point in life, I have the good fortune to be able to camp at times other than holiday weekends. So I skip those and leave things like Labor Day and Memorial Day to the folks who are not as lucky. But I don't have any bad memories about the holiday camping trips we've made. Yes, it was crowded. At times the hot water ran out and upkeep on the showers was far from ideal, but we've no horror stories.

For those who are going for Memorial Day camping, go have fun!! You may be sharing the campground with a huge crowd of strangers, but that can actually be fun and it sure beats not camping at all. Get there early and you have the fun of watching novices or incompetents, like me, try to park, set up camp and discover they forgot to bring something important. Perhaps you'll have your own discoveries or life lessons. Just roll with it. Oh the stories you'll get to tell for years to come!

For dang sure true, got a crap load of stories lol...we're doing the 4th in a cabin, but it's in a secluded cove, & we're most active at Dawn-10 & late afternoon evening, so crowds on the water won't be a problem; same cabin the week of Labor Day & after, no probs...

I'm on Lake Allatoona right now and when I got here Wednesday afternoon the trailer in the campsite next to mine didn't have wheel chocks, wasn't leveled, didn't have the stabilizers deployed. It was old and beat up but had a temp tag on the back. No tow vehicle in sight but an older Cadillac parked in back. And a landscaping trailer in front of it full of shrubberies and trees. The guy was homeless and his dad had bought him the trailer and put it there, paid for a few nights. When his reservation ran out he started a fight with the army corps of engineers rangers and tried to pay in cash. They told him that they don't take any cash and that his site was reserved anyhow. He did not understand that. He walked around the campground till he found somebody who could tow him out and he's in the parking lot of a church nearby now.
Another thing I've noticed at the corps campgrounds is that local delinquents from the nearby neighborhoods jump the fence at night and create mischief in the campground. It makes me sad that I need to lock my camper now.

But we're here, and I brought my bagpipes, and I'm going to drink and I'm going to play from sundown tonight until sun-up Monday. ;)

I guess we're just lucky. We camp all the holidays and seldom have any issues. We're at a Corps of Engineers Lake about 75 miles from home in a pretty rural area. Most of the campers are pretty laid back and friendly.

I've found that most of the hooligans and rabel rousers tend to stick closer to the city.

Wow you have been lucky! i think the reason why memorial day weekend is the worst is cause all the pent up winter time blues people have in them. They let it all hang out the 1st chance they get, And it's always seems to be next to my campsite.:(

We camped early for Memorial Day - my birthday trip. Hubs work schedule doesn't allow for holidays off. It was a good 2nd trip in the pup, other than both of us hurting ourselves. 🤷 We learned a few things about setting up and used the stove that came with the pup. I know for sure there are things I don't need to take and things I forgot. I also realized storage and organizing are a must for me. I'll be experimenting with ways to accomplish both of those things on the next trip.

Even with a troop of girl scouts across from us it was a peaceful trip. The campground was really nice and the bathroom was clean. We had deer and ducks visit us.

Not a long weekend for us (Remembrance Day being Nov 11th) but going camping anyways.

Packed up and retrieved the kids from school early:

Did a tongue weight check, just because I don't think I've done it with the bikes on top before:

Yeah, you don't get memorial Day but you get Victoria Day. Six or a half dozen.
We camped at fish Creek pond on Victoria Day weekend and the place was 99% filled with Canadians. French Canadians. Holy moly, those people can party!

Thank you to all the service men & women!
Got home 5/25 from a 3 night stay at Hanna Park in FL. The weather was so unsettled, it cleared out the campground. But it’s rare that there isn’t at least an hour or two during a day here when it’s pleasant being outside.
The Aliner stayed dry inside even though I had to pop it up in the rain, and it stayed dry & snug through some mighty thunderstorms.
Only my dog complained. I kept taking him to that cold, gray, windy beach. But he stopped when I gave him a bite of my pecan pie from this wonderful bakery in Atlantic Beach. IMG_4326.jpeg IMG_4327.jpeg
