Hey everyone, Sam and I are going on a 2 week trip around the 23rd of Sept to Mesa Verde NP. It's our 1st trip for the year, and our 29th Anniversary. We're not really familiar with the area as far as things to see and do. We also plan to stay at the KOA near Mesa Verde. Any suggestions as far as things to see and do in that area. Thanks ahead of time.

I'd head to Durango and ride the narrow gauge train to Silverton, very worthwhile. Also, lots of fishing in the San Juan Mtns. if that's your thing. there is also the Ute Mountain casino somewhere in the area, if you like to gamble. have a good time!

We traveled the same area in April (our first trip in the pup), went to Mesa Verde, Flagstaff and New Mexico. We stayed at the KOA in Cortez, CO and had a great time, very nice folks and everything very clean (bathrooms). Close to Mesa Verde within 7 miles, full hookup at 25.00/night. We would do it again, don't forget to see the 4 corners you can stand on all four states at the same time and the Hopi indians are selling their hand made jewelry and other stuff, had a great time.

I've been to Mesa Verde twice (four days once and three another) and found so much to do in the park (where I camped) that I never left during my stays.

Hot Cocoa, did you consider camping right in the park as opposed to the KOA? We camped at Morefield Campground right in the park a few years ago and it was fantastic!!! Lots of deer and wild turkey walking right through your campsite. Lots of sites (over 400). 15 I think have full hook-ups and those can be reserved (other sites are first come, first serve, but the campground rarely fills ups). I highly recommend this campground, it will be such a different experience than a KOA and at this time of year I bet it won't be crowded at all.

Have a great time, I envy you, I can't wait to go back one year.
