    Hello everyone,

I am going to take the challenge of making new cushion covers for the beds in my 1973 camper. Can anyone tell me what material you have used? I am not sure what type to use. Is the Sunbrella material the best to use or do you have any other suggestions?
    Thanks!!

A midweight denim is nice, just be sure to wash it a few times before sewing it up. You can make the covers removable and they will wash up very easily. You can use any upholstery material, but most of it needs to be dry-cleaned, which can get expensive really fast!

Any midweight (like thin jeans) fabric will do as long as it is 100% cotton or a cotton-poly blend (just make sure it has more cotton than polyester). Thin quilting and shirt-weight cottons will wear quickly.

Thank you sewserious. Excellent idea and much cheaper than the Sunbrella material I was thinking that I needed to use. I think I will go that route!!

Jovers02, take a look at my webshots for my cushion redo. I used a microsuede fabric. Nice and soft and comfy but easy to clean. I actually bought futon covers and zipped the foam inside. I took the extra material and wrapped it underneath and tacked it so if I had to take the covers off I just take the tacking out and unzip. I did buy an extra futon cover and took it apart and redid all the smaller cushions with it.

I'm using a poly-cotton blend on mind. Picked up 40 yards to do everything at walmart for $28.

ILUVTHEBEACH, I cannot open your photo album, says I need a PW.

I like the idea of a pre-made solution. Plus, gotta love the cost of the fabric from Wally world.

    Thanks for the excellent ideas!!

Hey BeachLuve...what did you use to cover it with? It is so refreshingly bright and cheery. I could see that camper at the beach!!

I picked up some automotive upholstery and vinyl from JoAnne Fabrics then measured & sewed the covers. The backs are vinyl so they'll stand up to wear and tear bit better. I also have some velcro strips on the back to keep the cushion backs from falling down on the dinette. The sticky velcro sticks better to the vinyl. I didn't make new covers for the actual mattresses, instead I got new coordinating sheet sets for the new cushion & curtains.

    Original cushion:

I also made new curtains to replace the tacky 80's print
