Despite my best efforts not to become a collector I now have nine Colemen GPA lanterns. The latest is this NTM 228E. It started out it's life in 1960 as a 220E. I bought it as a parts lantern and scavenged a few parts to make repairs on others that I have.

A while back I decided to rebuild it as a 228E with the "big hat." I bought a "new" frame and collar on eBay. I was able to complete it this week when I found the correct vent. I fired it up the other night and it runs like a champ.

I have the same model. I love it. Scored it for $10 and put a little into it but now lights up everything.

Well done. Your fellow addicts are a pretty congenital bunch. Now all that’s left is to find your birthday lantern.

I have a 228 from my birth year, which is 1968. My grandparents bought it new and shared it with my parents. My grandfather loaned to me about 35 years ago and never got it back...lol...I still have the tattered box it came in. We never had a case. We just put it back in the box to protect it.
