Has anyone had any experience at this campground? We will be traveling from RI. Looks pretty nice, but my experience has taught me that websites can sometimes be deceiving. Thanks. http://www.camptaylor.com/index.htm Mike '05 Nissan Quest '07 Fleetwood Williamsburg
Never been here but the website leaves alot to be desired. Pit toilets and 1 shower for 100+ sites. State parks have better facilities than that (at least in PA). If you are passing through and need to sleep for the night fine. If you are looking to stay and visit that region there are many better places as it is a big tourist/ recreation area. -Bob 2006 Fleetwood Niagara 2007 F150 4X4 Supercrew
My wife and i went to the Lakota Wolf Preserve which is located on campground property on a weekend trip a few years ago. The campground is very dated and not real clean. We were originally gonna camp there but ended up going to the poconos (maybe 45 mins away) I can give some ideas for places there (poconos) if you would like but i wouldnt go to camp taylor except for the bus ride through it to the wolves! Mercman thanks for the link - very helpful. DGY if you wouldn't mind giving some ideas for the Poconos I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Mike '05 Nissan Quest '07 Fleetwood Williamsburg
Hi Fourkids! Greetings from a fellow RI resident We did a trip to poconos and Delaware water gap and stayed in PA state parks. Promise Land State Park was the first one we stayed at. It has nice sites and is a pretty easy drive from RI Martha Life is short...play hard Martha
Martha, Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the info. I checked out Promised Land SP. Looks nice. How far in advance did you make reservations? We are looking for places that provide for adequate space between campsites and the campers are QUIET (especially at night). What was your experience at PLSP regarding these issues? Thanks. For the best camping in the Pocono Mountains you'll have to go to Driftstone On The Delaware! The place is spotless and no shenanigans! They are close enough to the wolf preserve so you can visit and they have a 1 mile private stretch of the Delaware River. Promised Land Sate Park is nice but just like every other Pocono attraction it can get very crowded. Being a local here I would'nt camp in the Poconos anymore. The Pococnos have turned into "the rat race" it's no longer a place to relax. Check out Driftstone, get a river front site if you can. They do river trips right from the campground,it's close enough to visit the Delaware River Trolley and the Appalachain Trail and all the other Pocono attractions. Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile!
Sam, Thanks for the info. Checked out DontheD and looks great. We are already committed to Camp Taylor; however when we head back to that area of NJ/PA I will definitely keep it in mind. Mike '05 Nissan Quest '07 Fleetwood Williamsburg
Fourkids: My wife and two kids (2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old) and I tent-camped there last September. We had a secluded site at the top of a hill and had a wonderful time. The facilities were clean (trust me, if they weren't my wife would have let me know) and the place was very quiet. I would go back again if that lends any value to my review. The only drawback that I can think of is lack of "entertainment" for kids but, you're camping, not spending a day at an amusement park. This site is located in a beautiful part of New Jersey that hasn't been ruined by the rampant development that's spoiling the natural beauty of other former rural areas such as the 6th Borough of New York (a.k.a. The Poconos).
