Hello everyone. I just finished three weeks of camping in a dome tent and I have decided its time to move on since at 48 its not fun crawling into a tent every night, and having to crawl out in the middle of the night to head to the camp bathroom.

I've not found what I am looking for so am starting to design my own camper.

Four things I am really looking for in a camper:
    1) A bathroom (cassette toilet is fine)
    2) protection from wind and moisture (cold winds, damp tarps, water condensation on the tent walls)
    3) A bed
    4) Light towing weight (under 1000 lbs if possible)

Hello and Welcome from South Central Kentucky. Good luck in your search for a PUP. What you are looking for is out there. It is waiting patiently for you to find it and give it a nice home.

Welcome to the forum from Michigan!

What you have just described is a pop-up (PUP) camper!

Our PUP has sunbrella fabric, so even if we run the furnace with the windows zippered shout there is no condensation. The beds are quite comfortable (we added a foam mattress topper to ours) and many styles have a toilet aboard. I hope you find just the one you are looking for!

This is a great time to look to buy, as the traditional season for camping is winding down and people know that no one buys a camper in the snow. Good luck and keep us posted!

Welcome from San Diego... Getting a cassette potty popup weighing under 1000# might be difficult. I think you might have to settle for one with cabinet space for a stand alone porta potti.

Big Texas welcome. You'll find it's much nicer than ground camping.

Figured this would be a good place to update my status.

To answer Heritage, I am in the south Los Angeles beach cities area.

I am currently sitting in West Los Angeles watching my hitch and wiring being installed on my Subaru Forester.

I've decided to pay the extra $$ to get an electric brake controller/7 way connector installed, so my target dry axle weight has gone up to 1300-1500 pounds.

I've missed some good Aliner and Chalet deals while waiting to get my hitch installed, but I figure after Labor day, more trailers should come on the market.

Been busily sketching up a custom build in case I don't get what I want at the price I am looking for within the next few months.
