Hello from Ohio! I've been lurking about for a few weeks and finally registered yesterday. Already, I've learned quite a bit! I'm pretty new to camping in general. My parents had a boat when I was a kid, but that was about it. I pretty much believed that I wasn't the camping type until six years ago when my boyfriend convinced me to try a tent for just a couple of days--and I was immediately hooked. Even after that time we were surprised by a severe thunderstorm that twisted our canopy frame into a pretzel and then dumped buckets of rain all over our gear so that we had to bail out a day early. Into every trip, a little rain must fall (at least in our experience), so I'm looking to upgrade to a pop up to give us just a little more shelter on days when the weather doesn't want to cooperate. I'm hoping to take the plunge later this year and trying to learn all I can in the meantime. I have two granddaughters (3 yrs and 18 mos) that I'd like to take along on adventures, so that they don't waste so many years not knowing how fun it can be!
Welcome to the portal from Michigan, and good luck in your search. Learn as much as you can about pre-purchase inspections. It may save you some headaches
Welcome from Oklahoma. Camping memories are the best. Even when things aren't perfect, years later they bring a smile to the face.
Welcome to the forum from Midway USA. Your story is similar to DW. She was a dyed in the wool city girl when we met. When we were dating she went camping in the tent a couple times and claimed to like it. I think she was just humoring me because once we married she -- as women are prone to do -- put her foot down about sleeping on the ground. That's when we bought our Pup. Fast forward about three years and she put her foot down again. This time she wanted a real bathroom so we now own a 32-foot TT with a bathroom.
Welcome from Eastern Ontario, Canada. We're new to the site too and just purchased our used PUP last week after tent camping for 14 years with our children. We've just gotten to the point that we are really tired of rolling out of bed, getting dressed in a tent, and not having somewhere nice and dry and comfy to hang out when it rains. We are in our 40's now so we figured it's time for an upgrade, lol
Thank you all for the warm welcome! Part of the reason I don't yet have a pup is because I need to sell a house. That's consuming a lot of time, energy and my bank account contents right now. It gets listed next week, so hopefully I will be able to take the next step soon!
Welcome! Being in Ohio, you may lucky enough to score an Apache hard side pop up. We had one when we lived in WV. They are easier to come by in Michigan and Ohio than anywhere else. They are all but non-existent in the south. We take our grandchildren out at every opportunity, too! Good luck on your search!
Well now, things sort of got out of hand last week and somehow I came home with 2004 Coachmen Clipper. It was totally unplanned and probably somewhat "unsmart." But it is what it is. We have a few repairs to make and a vehicle upgrade, but the plan is to make our first trip this summer--unless something goes horribly, horribly wrong. We had it opened up for a couple of days to show the in-laws, but had to close it up on Monday due to expected bad weather. It'll have to stay closed until next week, since I'm working on another project that requires my full attention. But I pass it every morning and afternoon on my way to my car, and whisper, "My precious..." in a Gollum-like way.
