Wow i wish i had my parents nimrod
Just spent 4 days camping, set-up the canopy just because and love it, quite easy to set up!! I have 2 of those screw in dog anchors that worked great!!
It rained this morning and the water beaded up on the canvas, not a drop inside until I packed up!!
Looks and sounds like a great time was had!!!
Whoa!!!! I don't remember you mentioning the fringe/tassels hanging from the awning canopy!?!?? So freaking cool!!!!
Your camper looks awesome, and very functional friendly!!! The slide out, your table and gear all look great!!!
Love that it stayed dry!!!!
As far as I know this is the original: Canopy (yes with fringe), guy lines, aluminum telescoping poles, and 1 of the 3 stakes... Yea I got pretty lucky on this deal!! I like how wide the canopy gets at the outer edge!!
So far 11 nights camped, 4 cg's, and about 1,300 miles towed!! More to come!!
I finally ordered and installed the new wheels, 5.7-8 (it had 4.8-8), today!!
We have camped 15 nights in the 73 so far, planning an extended trip soon.
The picture set-up is at the Palomar Mountain Observatory CG!!
Love those things
That is one cool pup.
Thanks!! I thinks it's pretty sweet!
That is such a clever PUP and congrats on your find! It's perfect for folks that don't have a big SUV or truck for a TV. I'm honestly surprised that we haven't seen the manufacturers building lightweight PUPs for cars with lower towing capacities. Love the fringe on the awning too!

It is pretty sweet, I am still pumped for you guys... Great Score!!!!
How does she feel towing with the bigger tires and wheels?
How is it when set up, any more stable "feeling" with the larger wheels/tire's?
Thanks and happy camping...surely you are out there somewhere this weekend and AWESOME FOR YOU GUYS!!!!
We just got a basketball hoop for our boys...this weekend the PUP can't even get in the driveway LOL!!!

I wish someone would manufacture a camper that simple again...yours is a cult classic for sure.
I have seriously considered remaking this pup!! I would make a few changes, but mostly the same!! I can do everything but the canvas!!
It does tow much better, however the smaller wheels had some wear on the inside, so I added some crown back to the axle simply by putting a jack under the center and raised it...
I made it about 50 miles from home and lost #3 cylinder, likely broke a ring... (the motor went through 1qt of oil in 150 miles and was getting replaced anyway). No cell service, so smoking like a fogger, literally, I figured I'd coast/drive the 10 miles down the hill. Well I got there and the car kept running so I made it home in traffic on 3 cylinders....
However I am able to open the rear door/step now without it rubbing and the stabs can be deployed without putting blocks under the wheels, so that's better. However the jack is still way to tall when it is the shortest.
Great to hear your TV made it thru like the little engine that could!!!!
That could have made your adventure an expedition
Sounds like the wheels and axle bump have made some added benefits and a shortening to the jack...you might have your travelling prototype now, maybe in just a short while you will be building your version of the PUP!!
I have been looking in my realistically attainable area for some vintage style PUPS and nothing yet...of course my project time will need to go toward our Cheyenne for roof attention this winter coming...ABS Beauty!!!
Camp On Guys!!!
I see vintage pups on CL often around here, condition varies!!
I hopefully will have the TV back going this week!!
Lots of CL action for late 80's and 90's PUPS... Littered with newer highwalls and hybrids and toy hauler PUPs too. Patience and diligence and I will happen along the right one at the right time.
Here comes Monday!!!! Never fails, every Sunday night, like clockwork LOL!!!
I found mine on a Sunday!!
Ever come across an early 90's Coleman, 8' or 10' box with hard sides and tents over the bunk ends?
I couldn't convince the DW the other day when I found it that I had the time and the hiding place so she wouldn't have to look at it till I am done with the patio LOL!!
It was only about an hour away and cheap too!!! Raises my eyebrows a bit but... It was different which always catches my eye.
That looks cool!
Total of 27 nights camped in the MW and about 8,000 miles towed since March!!
Just completed a 23 day camping road trip, 10 nights camped, 7 states, and 5,800 miles towed (6,300 miles total for the trip).
