4 days at Nehalem Bay, Oregon.

There were plenty of PUPs in use. The concerns raised in the other thread about PUPs going the way of the dinasour weren't substantiated in the least. However, the big difference was this - I have never ever seen so many non Coleman/Fleetwoods and so few Coleman/Fleetwoods in use. Normally we are accustomed to seeing about 95% or more C/F, and of those maybe 20% are nice high wall models. This weekend we didn't see a single high wall C/F and the ratio was completely reversed, probably 95% non C/F. Kind of weird.

We just got back from Lost River Valley campground in North Woodstock New Hampshire and it was great to see so many pop ups. They had about 100 sights and while half were tenters, there were only a couple trailers leaving the rest to be all pop ups. They might not be selling many "new" pop ups, there are plenty still rolling and being used.....

On our trip to SW CO, we saw many PUPs. Below is a grouping of 4 PUPs ( mine is a Coleman/Fleetwoood on the right).

Also, I occassionally look on Craigslist to see what Coleman/Fleetwood pups are for sale. Through late Spring it was very common to see less than 10 units listed. Yesterday I saw maybe 40.

Ah ha! Thought it looked familiar. [:D]

We stayed two nights, touring the ruins on Sunday. On Monday we headed up toward Telluride where we spent four nights at Woods Lake campground (NFS). Beautiful spot that is. About 30 minutes from town at 9400 ft. Was a little chilly for us Zonies. Thunderstorms Monday night and most of the day Tuesday. 43 degrees Wednesday morning but clear skies for the remainder of our visit.

As soon as I can cull through the photos and get them posted, I will share.

Glad I went last week here in Wisconsin, pretty warm this week. Saw plenty of PUPS last week around the State and at the campgrounds we went to. Many different models and ages.We even saw one on a ferry to Washington Island, drove by campground there and it was pretty full mid week. At Lake of the Woods in Wautoma we saw a good mix but that campground seems to have more seasonal sites than overnight spots. I must say it is interesting to see how people set up their sites and theme them to what they are interested in. I like going to different campgrounds whether State Parks or private I don't think I am ready to kick off my boots in one place yet.

teejaywhy - We stayed at Ridgway SP instead. We love Telluride and want to camp in that direction instead next year. Looking forward to your photos.

I was up at San Simeon State Park earlier this week. Coleman/Fleetwoods were the most popular by make, probably about 10% of the total RV's, a few other pups. Jaycos, Starcrafts and a Rockwood. probably about a quarter of the groups were tent camping.

I think if anything, more and more pups are in use, as they are lighter, and easier on the gas needed to tow them. A 3,000 lb pup versus a 6,000 lb TT.. and driving a smaller V6 vehicle versus a larger V8 saves on time and gas.

Do you think it may have something to do with Fleetwood closing their doors? Maybe people are panicking & trying to offload their Fleetwood/Colemans, worried they may not be able to get needed parts in the near future? Just a thought....

I have been on five different trips this summer. I would say that there have been about 50% PUPs at each of the parks. I have yet to see another Coachmen Clipper 806. I've noticed a lot of Camp Lite PUPS.

None of the parks I have been to have been full during the week when I go. It is really hot right now for one thing. For example, Monday night at Palmetto SP, there were six popups, two of those bus-like things, four trailers, and one pick up camper. Tuesday night there were two popups, two trailers, and two families in tents. It has been light like that at every park.

I saw an interesting old PUP about a week ago. They had a rood AC and a window unit going. It was a mustard yellow thing, box and canvas both. What struck me most was how long the box was. It was at least three times longer than my little Clipper!

Over the last few months I had commented in several threads about seeing so few PUPs while camping. On my trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, (just returned yesterday) I saw many, many PUPs on the road and in CGs. I'd guess that 20-25% of all the campers I saw were in PUPs. Coleman/Fleetwood accounted for about half and all other brands combined accounted for the other half. There were new ones and old ones, big ones and small ones.

Believe me, if anyone at an RV sales lot ever tells you or a friend that they don't allow PUPs in Yellowstone (or that they plan to prohibit them), tell him or her that that is absolutely, unequivocally WRONG!

Although we ended up with a used Coleman/Fleetwood Cheyenne, we did look at the Coachman Clipper. Liked the cabinetry and the bed support systems. In fact the cabinetry was much better than most of the other makes we looked at.

Even tipped one over at the dealer. Oops, stabilizers weren't down.

I think if we hadn't found the Cheyenne which had a bunch of the features we liked and wanted we would have gone for a Clipper new.

Was at the Paragon Casino Campground, Marksville, LA in my PUP. Some ole lady walking her two poodles stops and stares at me and the brats popping up. She looked like she had never seen anything like it before, like she was confused. LOL. Maybe it was b/c we were the only pop up in the entire RV park. We were surrounded by these huge land yachts. It was all good though, we still had a blast.

This summer I paid a little more attention and there were always several PuPs in the two RV parks near Disneyland. Couldn't really tell the makes/models from driving by.

Was this weekend in Anastasia SP in St. Augustine Fl, saw only 4 pups + mine.
And on the way there, none, coming back, just one on the road. Is too hot in Florida to camp at this time in a pup, it was hot. I wonder is that's one reason to see less pup's this time of the year.
