You all are very handy, creative, diy folks. My ice scraper has a telescoping handle and a snow puller that I love, but only scrapes a 1 inch section of my minivan windshield at a time.
I can push down on the center of the scraper part, but that eliminates the point of the telescoping handle.
Why do ice scraper suck and how can I fix it?

Start your vehicle and then start clearing the roof, working your way down and around. By the time you get to the windshield, a lot of that ice should be warm enough to get pushed off in sheets.

I hate when I see people on the road who haven't TOTALLY cleared the snow and ice from their vehicle.

There's a difference between frost and ice on the windshield... For clear ice it's best to warm the car up and then use the teeth on the hand scraper. For grey frost, I use a small scraper fine edge and push down hard. The windshield curve makes it a little challenging with the fine edge..

Your scraper is bent: either from damage, or by a poor manufacturing process. I would just replace it (been there, done that)

A picture always helps us that visually need to see a problem.

Ill agree there cheaply made. I break one every year. Best thing is to warm up the car, or auto start first. Sometimes this is not always possible. That leads to the broken scrapers. Funny thing is the old ones i have still work fine, but are short and require getting snow, ice or dirt on your clothing. Its like building a better mouse trap......

Find a piece of electrical conduit, take the ends off the crappy scraper and mount them on the conduit.
It will be heavier, and it won't telescope, but I doubt you'll fold it up in the middle.

As a side bonus, you could use it for self defense if needed. :D

Go into your camera settings and change the size/resolution.

When I lived in South Florida a coworker got a job in Ann Arbor, MI. A former northerner gave her an ice scraper -- one of those old ones that full-service gas stations used to give away as advertising -- as a going away gift. The coworker, who had lived in Florida her whole life didn't know what it was. [LOL][LOL] [:)C]

Putting Rain X on your windows makes them a lot easier to clear as well

Even with mine at the three foot length, I still have to lean across my fenders to scrape the whole windshield. That's why I wanted a telescoping one. But I can't use that feature or scrape the whole windshield because I have to put pressure on the scraper part.

I've lived in the Midwest my whole life and I know how to use a scraper. They just all suck at doing their intended job.

Yes they all suck. I clean out my garage every Fall just to make sure my vehicle is inside for the winter, I Hate Scraping!! When looking for a new scraper, I will grab about 5 or 6 off the shelf at the store and look sideways across the length of the blade portion to see how much of it will actually touch the window glass. These things get pumped out of the plastic molds at about 3 billion per minute, and the plastic always bends when it cools. Try to find a straight one. But if you already have a bent one, try and use something to straighten it so it can contact more of the glass. I don't think that heating it in the oven will be any good to soften the plastic and try to reform it. You might make things worse. You might try taking a large metal file to it and try to sharpen it straight. Make sure to keep the original sharp edge profile on it, and not round over the cutting portion.

At this stage of my life, I think that moving somewhere that doesn't require me to own an ice scraper is the best course of action.
When I do I'll donate my scrapers to this forum to be distributed as needed. :D

Haven't found a decent scrapper in years! I believe it's mostly due to cheap shotty manufacturing, but vehicle windshields of modern vehicles are more curved than in years past.
