Our first pop-up

We just "rescued" a 1984 Coleman Cape Cod that is in amazing condition. My husband got it at a yard sale this past weekend from a neighbor for a mere $275! After we get it cleaned and registered, we're ready to go. We've never had a pop-up before, so we're a little bit excited. We were backpackers before we had our kids, so this is going to be a different kind of adventure. We have 2 boys - 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 - who are very excited about the prospect of camping and going somewhere fun!

The upholstery, foam, screens, floors and the kitchen stuff are in amazing condition. Lights all work, and it has new tires. We haven't tried the stove yet, but we'll probably need to get all new hoses before we fire it up. I had to do some repair on some of the fabric that I think had dry-rotted, but since I'm pretty good with a sewing machine (and some very tedious handsewing), it now looks as good as new (from a distance, you can't tell that I fixed it).

Congrats and welcome, Before you take the Pup put grease the bearings and check your tires for dry-rot, If it's been sitting for awhile the tires might be shot.

Enjoy!

Congrats!

The canvas could probably use a good cleaning and recoating with the Sunbrella waterproofing compound. You should be able to get it at an RV dealer. Check the fire extinguisher, spare tire and have fun! If you are not inclined to do this work you might have a dealer go over it for you. Might be nice to have the surprises out of the closet before you find yourself out in the woods.

My husband tried! Actually, he asked for $260 (the guy was asking $300), but my husband was wearing his NY Yankees hat and I know for a fact that the guy is a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, so my thought is that at least he didn't charge us double! LOL!

Great bargain. Sounds like you got extra discounts for being Yankee fans. Take a quick look at the "what do we bring" lists on this site before you take off. A lot of us recommend 'driveway' camping for the first time out. That way you can decide what's necessary, and what is extra weight.
Enjoy!

Where would I find the "what do we bring" lists? I've been surfing the site a bit, but haven't come across those. I"m sure they'd be most helpful.

Our first trip out will probably be pretty close to home (although farther than the driveway!). That way, if one or both boys freaks out and it's miserable, we can always come home. Hopefully that won't happen, but you never know.

There is a guy on this forum who has a list also look at some of the ouners manuals. I got one off this site that the last 3 pages was a "what to bring list".i just printed that and stck it under plastic sheet and with a dry erase marker each time you use it. als keep a pen and pad handy on the first trip or drive way camp to adjust it to what you need.

What a great deal. If it is half as nice as you make it sound then you stole it for $275. You should definitely consider treating the canvas before heading out or you could be rudely surprised the first time you encounter rain. Enjoy!
